does the "size" of the animal increase hunting satisfaction?

i was thinking. (dangerous, i know)

last year on our deer hunt, there were decent deer around. we would sneak off midday and hunt quail and bunnies in the flats. we found a bunny honey hole, and we hit covey of quail with giant populations..hundreds! i was surprised those two tiny animals almost derailed our deer hunt. it was GIDDY fun. i do admit..bow hunting a giant elk has the element of Adrenalin. there is a lack of adrenalin when lining up shotgun beads on a diving quail.

what say yee? it\'s ALL great right? but do you give more merit to the big game animals?

\"Increase satisfaction\" - No. Increase adrenaline - maybe when comparing bunnies to deer or elk but not quail. I think hunting quail is a blast and would love to see numbers like you mention. Flushing a covey without a dog startles me every time especially if they\'re holding tight and stepping on them is what it takes to get up. Now, if they\'re just everywhere, I could see how it might get old - same with rabbits.

Guess part of your question goes back to reason for the hunt - meat for freezer, trophy, etc..but I don\'t give more merit to the bigger game animal with one caveat: I\'ll sit in a tree stand all day long for deer or elk but ain\'t walking around all day long looking for bunnies or quail.

I\'m like Brad as I have never been a horn hunter. I was just as happy with my small cow last year as any bull I have shot. Heck I enjoy shooting a turkey as much as a elk anymore.

I just love hunting...it can be doves, pheasant, quail, geese, or any big game animal, I don\'t care. As long as I\'m hunting, I\'m happy! Satisfaction is different in every one of those though. Is it satisfying to fill a limit of birds in a morning? For sure! But is it as satisfying as punching a big game tag? I\'m not sure...probably depends on the amount of effort put forth.

if you saw my mounts you would know im not a big horn hunter. im more of a legal animal kinda guy. also, i prefer ducks to anything else, they just do something for me.

I\'m slowly learning more each year that I just love shooting stuff... it makes me happy and I love the end result.
A full freezer and meat for me to cook all year. (I love cooking)


So my hunting satisfaction comes from the meat! Not so much the size. :upthumb:

I\'m back and still kicking just not very high...
I think I\'ve been thru all the stages of hunting and have now settled in to meat for deer and love to see um work for ducks... Of course with the deer I tried to help my team last fall with little success so if I\'m on a team this fall look for meat on the table again...

I always carry a judo tipped arrow in my quiver as I really enjoy shooting things like stumps, grass tuffs, dirt lumps ect. It doesn\'t have to be alive !! I love a morning hunt after the bugling has ended and I\'m walking back to camp or the another hunting area as I get to shoot things the whole way back !!

Poor Iccyman hates that I always call in elk and I don\'t shoot them !!! LOL. I guess I\'m just happy playing the game. Maybe I don\'t want the game to end..........I really do not know. This year I\'ll shoot one Dan !!! LOL
