Elk behavior and weather

I'm a relatively new elk hunter and need some help understanding how weather affects elk behavior.  When it snows, what do elk do during the storm? after the storm?  Where would I find them?

Someone told me that after the snow starts melting they move out of the timber to avoid being hit with it falling out of the trees.

How about rain? Wind?

Any decent books on the subject?

Thanks in advance!

the 2 biggest weather factors that effect elk are wind and heat, for the most part when it snows or rains  elk will continue with there normal routine ,deep or crusted snow will change where they feed to the sunny side of the hill were the snow melts off sooner . wind or wind with snow or rain will send them to the trees or the non windy side of the hill,, heat will send them to the shady areas or close to water .
