Do you need a bugle tube to make bugles?

Or are those for focusing them in a direction, increasing sound, or....?
Can I get away without using one?

A good grunt tube improves the quality of the sound, making it more realistic. You can get by without one, but you will sound like a very immature bull.

I wonder if that could be beneficial in a calling sequence.

Maybe a couple cows talking, then throw in some immature bulls calls and piss off the big boy who is out there listening?

Who knows, I still need to get this all down. :dk:

I personally like the Fat bat taped up with camo tape the best !! It\'s a little bulky to carry but the sounds you get out of it are worth it !!

Travis how large of a hole do you make on the large end, or do you experiment, increasing the size?

I use a plastic bat. I just painted it up camo. but it was very noisy, every twig that hit it was obnoxiously loud. I will tape it up for this year. that should also deepen the sound coming out of it.

It will be louder with the tape on it for sure. A fabric material over it goes along ways and add a couple tube dampeners on the outside, that will help get rid of some of the hollow sound.

I personally use a 3 1/4 \" hole saw with the drill bit. That leaves the flange more solid then just cutting the end off square. Doing it that way the end is more solid and thus the sound it more realistic. You could also go smaller with the hole but volume will be diminished some.

On some thinner tubes the tube tamer bands are great but with my method I do not use them as they sound better without them. I also prefer camo tape over materials. No reason just personal preference and I am a terrible with a sewing machine !!! LOL

Hope this helps

I cut up an old camo t-shirt and used spray adhesive. worked like a charm no platic/twig scraping/
