elk calls

Anybody know if the Elk will respond to calls at all on the first hunt in NM sept 1?

Thanks, that's kinda what I figured but thought I'd see what other people have experienced I've never been there for this hunt

remember not to call to heavy you want them looking for you,or not suspecting your not and elk

Well considering they were bugling last night in my yard here in SW Montana, I'm sure they'll be talkin in 2 wks in NM   Like cowboy said tho, less is more early on.  During the heavy rut I stay 1/2 hr at a set.  During the early season, I give it a solid hour.  Herd talk mostly...Good luck

Good advice above! Go lite ,cow call. They should be firing up some by then,a bit.    Nothing really yet here where I am in NM,SW.
