Elk tongue?

I'm a big advocate of not wasting anything I'm fortunate enough to kill when hunting. Although it sounds unappealing tongue is very familiar to heart and in my opinion very tasty. When I hunt deer out east I take and eat the tongue, but I'm hesitant to with elk. Knowing CWD is present in and around the area, and that prions can be found in the saliva I feel uncomfortable. Not sure if that's the case or not, but I suppose I'll take the safe route. Am I right or are there any other thoughts?

Just found this article with a lot of good info. Towards the bottom it gets into interactions between hunters and game animals:

you can probably boil it first and be fine.

Prions are her stable and can't be killed by boiling, or even anautoclave that sterilizes surgical instruments.  They are scary critters for sure.  I think the article listed above in this thread has some good info to understand.

Good luck with your hunt.
