turkeys-1/squirmy boy-0. we have been seeing birds. look dad, a turkey, while pointing didn\'t help  but he just cant sit still long for anything to possibly come in close enough. taking a break for scouts tonight and then back at it again. the other 2 boys are chomping at the bit to get out there also!

lol, been there. dont do what i did. i put to much pressure on them cause i wanted them to get stuff. just enjoy an they will.

scott, I hear ya. the best part is, the tag only cost a dollar, so no pressure there. its fun watching him having fun! the other 2 boys, younger and older, are a bit better at sitting and remembering their inside whispers.... :D

That\'s awesome Gary! I can\'t wait to get my boys out there. I\'m sure it comes with it\'s frustrations, but that still has to be pretty cool

I\'ve taken a few kids on their first turkey hunt. Falls birds are the way to go. Scattter them any way you can. If you know where they are roosting, walk through their roost the night before. I promise those birds will be easy to call back in and it won\'t take long. That\'s what makes it great for a kids first turkey hunt. If you can have the flock scattered from their roost the evening before, they won\'t have to hunt long to be in a lot of action. Sometimes those young jakes are so stupid they will let you get away with a lot of movement. I\'ve actually been calling to them before I set up and they have seen me crossing a fence. They don\'t even spook, just stand there and look. I haven\'t hunted them in many years but I used to take some of my non-turkey hunting buddies and some kids because like I said it doesn\'t take long and it\'s fast paced action. You can even call one in, miss and then call another one.

success! I brought my good luck charm out tonight... my youngest, is a super turkey hunter! he is 6 and the youth model shotgun is still a little big for him. so he got to watch dad shoot another turkey, I think this #4 for him. it isn\'t the biggest, actually its the smallest I have ever taken. but, we got to watch them come back after being scattered for the next hour.

Congratulations Gary. I don\'t hunt the fall birds anymore but I love to hear a flock re-group after they have been scattered. They call in very easy too.

yeah steve. they are quite noisy when they kee kee kee. we sat there, I put him on my lap to better help him, for the next 45 mins waiting for one to break away from the main flock when they came back so he could get a shot. no luck... some of the jakes were strutting. the oldest is going out tonight! hopefully he can get a 2nd bird this year.

success #2!!!! my oldest got his 2nd turkey this year. its amazing what an 8 year old can do compared to a 7 or 6 year old..... she was another yearling turkey. but, man was it cool! enjoy
