Happy Friday, everyone! :upthumb:

How about we celebrate with another Free Gear Friday!
Winner will be selected tonight using a random number generator at 1900 MST (7 pm ;) )

To enter simply post what area you'll be working on to improve most this year.

For example, I'll be working the most on my shooting this year, specifically from 5-20 yards. For some reason I am lights out at 30-40 yards, but I have my moments at the closer ranges. To go along with that I'm trying to find my up-close range breaking points of my arrow. (30 pin at 7 yards or less....etc)

Winner must have a minimum of 5 posts and be in good standing on the forum. (no infractions within the last 6 months)

Winner of today's Free Gear Friday will win an Elk 101 "New Word" T shit (S, M, L, and XL to pick from) and an Elk 101 UEH DVD!

This year I will be working on gear preparation. I need to lighten up my pack for many reasons. I also want to improve my in endurance, starting with home outside workout.

There are a couple areas that I would like to improve in but I guess my main focus this year is building up my leg strength . This will be the first elk hunt in 5 years for me since moving away from Colorado. The last elk I packed out a total of 8 miles and I was bed ridden for 2 days after because I didn't condition myself for a pack out and couldn't move my legs from the acidic build-up. I'm not going through that again so I'm doing daily hikes and adding weight to my pack consistently. I'm losing a little bit of weight but and already feel the difference in my leg strength. Not getting as fatigued and am doing at least one 6 mile hike per week. Can't wait till hunting season! It's been a while

Always working to improve on conditioning. But I feel I need to increase my calories by probably taking some mct oil and nut butter single serve packets. Figuring out a more efficient food plan.

Always working on the must do items up to speed (shooting/conditioning).  This year my focus will be on scouting new areas for backup plans.  We consistently hunt and do rather well in the same area year after year.  However, over the past couple of years there's been a noticeable decline in the number of elk and bulls in general.  Want to spend a few weekends this summer scouting other local areas.

I?ll be working harder this year on my physical readiness and trying to prepare myself mentally. This will be the first year doing a OTC hunt in Colorado so I have a lot to prepare for. Wish me luck.

This year I need to not get injured before the season again..

4 years ago I tore my ACL and was 4 months post op during the archery season, and last year I tore up my ankle 3 weeks before the season. Neither injury prevented me from archery hunting, but they did limit me severely. Now I'm focusing on PT and Endurance to ensure i'll be good to go.

This year I'm working on everything:) I shot a elk in CO when I was 16(1996) and basically was along for the ride and we got lucky seeing a herd running as we drove this side road off the hwy.  Years of shooting helped me pick a bull out of a running herd of 30+.  As 2018 will be my first year planning an elk hunt for backpack backcountry.  My main goal is to develop my fitness and successfully follow every awesome detail described in this course.  I'll likely be applying Randy's late season tactics with an OTC tag.

This year will be scouting. Whether it be boots on ground or virtual, I will be digging into wherever I hunt so I know what to expect. My last two elk hunts were in unfamiliar units and I was going off advice. My most recent hunt was nothing but great advice, but I always feel guilty hunting other peoples spots. So, scouting is this years objective.

I want to ramp up my endurance and conditioning for my next elk hunt want to be able to hunt deeper without worrying so much about the pack out.

This year, I want to improve my scouting techniques.  I usually start out every year blind and just go into an area where I have found elk before.  I would like to invest in some trail cams and put in a lot more preseason scouting this year.

I will be going on my first elk hunt. And I'm told my whitetail gear will work. But my stamina will not. So I am working on fitness. I live at 32 ft above sea level so I really have to push myself.

if i have to pick one..

learn how to shoot my Left hand bow.  i feel like i am starting on the ground floor.  gonna be interesting for sure.
i still pick the bow up with my dominant hand.

i think this is gonna work.  my (left) eye does LOVE it.

This year I am working very hard at physical conditioning and loosing weight. I am also working on lightening up my pack and collecting better more efficient gear. Dad is getting older so I want to be able to help him out in any way possible!

:thewave:
Mostly physical conditioning and improving diet. That would be my#1
Shooting is skill that is always improving I can only shoot twice a week for an hour or so that?s a close 2nd

Ill be working the most on packing in and staying for 2 to 3 days. Getting ready to go on a pack in turkey trip to get my gear list together.

I will be working on My mental.  In other words knowledge in maps, area, terrain, elk activity etc.  more importantly positivity and stay positive about what I know and have thought out for a hunt if it doesn?t work out the way I want it to.  Staying positive and applying the things learned in the field and not getting worked up or frustrated.  I think sometimes it?s that positivity that keeps a hunter grinding to the finish
