Free Gear Friday!

I run em to year round on our leased farm land.. seen some good shots of bucks, coons, Yotes, turkeys, and a bob cat which we don?t see at all in Northern IL!!

Best part is showing my nephews  6 and 7 the pics and videos of the animals in true form.

Also caught some yahoo running dogs for bird or rabbit or whatever across our land the week before bow season...

Running trail cameras has never been one of my strategies for elk hunting.  I?ve always wanted to try one up in my early season high buck area.  Maybe someday🤞

I have one I bought not too long ago. So far, I've only used it in my backyard,  but it has been interesting to see what comes through.

I put several out every year, mainly to get an idea what the travel times are. They?re great not only to see what?s coming to a wallow or food plot, but when. They?re also great at making you mad about picking the wrong stand!
We?ve been using trail timers since the late 80?s on bear baits. Told us what time something hit the bait but not what.
We?ve come a long way.

I have for several years.  Bittersweet seeing what's in my area and I never see!

I usually only run them for whitetails, in new places where I don?t have time to scout. If I know there are deer there already, it?s like it ruins the surprise to set up cameras.

Not sure why I dont, I borrowed a friends once and really enjoyed looking at the deer pics. Saw a few bucks that I never saw during daylight hours.

I ran them in the past but I fell off the wagon a few years ago.  I do plan on getting some newer models this year and starting again.  Its always nice to know whats in area or not in the area.

Its also a fun activity to get the kids out and excited for hunting season

Congrats to rfra for winning! PM on the way. Keep an eye out for the next one!

Thank you!!! I can?t wait to get it out in the field and capture some photos.  :-D :dance2:

This is my first year running game cameras, so far what I have learned is that I need more to try to determine where the elk roam as they seem to be on a 3 day cycle where I am at.

I love using cameras, I usually end up seeing some nice deer or bear on the elk trail cam but I?m always capturing the elk and pin point their pattern.

I run cameras for various animals and even took a couple on my elk hunt last fall. When scouting for deer I like to know what there and basically when they are moving as the season approaches. I use them some for feral hogs as well. It gets hot here and I like to have an idea what part of the day they are hitting a water hole so I can try to be more efficient.

When looking for trail cameras, I've found very good deals on eBay.  Be sure and read up as there are different features you may or may not want to pay for.
