my experience (that goretex leaks after 2-3 years of use) has been similar. I\'ve never tried spray on waterproofing.
I bought a pair of Salomon Quest 4D\'s last month on sale at STP for $120. wearing them now at work. reasonably comfortable, but havent seen bad weather yet. uninsulated, and very lightweight.

What I didnt like about the stuff was the TERRIBLE smell. And it lingers for a long time.
\"Old School\" said:I\'ve always used the old \"Sno-Seal\" wax type stuff. If its warm and sunny, I set my boots out on our south sidewalk for about an hour to get them quite warm. I then use an old sock and rub the sno-seal in. If I decide to do it and its an overcast day, I put my boots in the oven at 200 deg until they are somewhat soft and then apply the sno-seal. I\'ve had good success with the sno-seal.
As far as boots...I\'m looking for some new ones as well. Hopefully I find some here at Bass Pro that will work. I hate ordering by mail and trying them on and mailing them back. A big disadvantage to being in the midwest and shopping for elk boots.

Yeah, I\'ve had boots leak from early on in their lives which is why I just spray them now. Brad is right, it does stink a bit, but nothing that won\'t go away after sitting out in the sun for a bit. Since I started spraying my boots I can\'t remember having wet feet once.
