Well, it's official.....net non-typical scores are tough to guess! :) We had guesses ranging from 198" up to 407"!

Congrats to 'wyoelk'....his guess of 320 2/8" was just 3/8" off the official net NT score of 320 5/8".

wyoelk, shoot me an e-mail at corey@elk101.com with your address, and we'll get your new Tenzing TZ4000 pack shipped out soon.

OK folks, this is the Grand Finale for the weekly Guess the Score contests. Tenzing has graciously offered to provide one of their new TZ4000 packs for the winner this week!

We gave you a good warm-up when we guessed the gross score of this same bull a couple weeks ago....now we're looking for the NET non-typical score of this awesome Wyoming bull. You have until next Monday (8/12) at 12:00PM (noon) MST to post your guess. We'll be announcing the winner of the Tenzing pack shortly after. Good luck!

Corey,

Is it just me, or did you post the wrong picture?  I don't remember seeing this bull up for gross score a couple weeks ago.  Maybe I missed it (getting old).  I have the Eastman's Bowhunting Journal article by Jason where he stated that he green scored the bull pictured at 376 gross.  I didn't think abnormal points were a deduction on a non-typical score???  So I can't figure out where the 320 2/8" came from.

wapiti_will,

No, we posted the right photo. Jason's bull did gross 376 and change (gross NT - gross score plus abnormal points). The net score on a non-typical does take into consideration the deductions for symmetry (not for abnormal points) and will often be much lower than the gross non-typical score if there are differences in the typical frame from side to side. You can find an online calculator/score sheet here:

http://www.boone-crockett.org/bgRecords/bc_scoring_nontypicalelk.asp?area=bgRecords&type=Non-Typical+American+Elk

If you go through and add your score estimates from Jason's bull into the calculator, it should get you pretty close to the official net NT score. You'll notice that wherever there is a point only on one side (G3 on right side for example), that difference - the full length of the G3 - is a deduction from the gross score.

In this case, if the bull has a gross score of 376 and has 56" of symmetry deductions from side to side, the net NT score would be 320. When I ran my guesses through the calculator, I came up with a gross score of 374 and a net of 332...
