Has anyone ever been to Vegas?

My brother in law and I are taking our wives to Las Vegas in a few weeks. We bought them some tickets to a concert for their birthday.

I'm not much of a gambler, so does anyone have any recommendations for other things to do? I think I'm mostly excited to eat a bunch of good food....

AINT NO ELK THERE!

Visit Fremont Street (night time) and eat breakfast at Black Bear Diner (not far from car rental and airport). We flew into Vegas this past spring and stayed two nights. Got a rental and drove to California to see Yosemite and Sequoias. Returned to Vegas for two days and flew back. You can go to the Grand Canyon (4 hrs) or See Hoover Dam (40 min) or Death Valley (2 hrs.).....The "strip" is really nice also, just to walk up and down the streets. Lots of movies filmed there, like the Bellagio Hotel.

Its been years since Ive been there, but I do remember that 3 days in Vegas is PLENTY!

The Hoover Dam tour was cool - You'd like that Dan

That sounds like a great idea! Thanks for the idea, Brad!

You sold me when you said breakfast.... I love food and breakfast is my favorite meal! I'll be sure to check out the Black Bear Diner!

The Hoover Dam and Death Valley are both doable options!

Thanks!

Like nclonghunter mentioned, just walking up and down the strip can be fun, especially at night. Easy way to make sure you get some exercise while on vacation!

Dan, I know its kind of a haul to get to the Grand Canyon, but it is definitely worth the drive. The Dam is always interesting too.

We fly in Friday afternoon and I leave Sunday morning. If we had some more time I'd definitely be doing that!

any of those Cirque De Solei (excuse my spelling..i'm 'MERICAN) are fantastic.

my wife dragged me to one kicking and screaming.  i saw the ticket prices and imagined the hunt gear i could get with that coin.

right from the get go..first and foremost..the ladies are all so "flexy"!!  anyways, the shows are effen mind blowing.  i would see one anytime.
the Buffets at the big casinos.. wear stretchy pants.

i have a 3 day maximum at Vegas.  after that, it gets mind numbing boring.  i have yet to hit a gunstore.  i heard they are epic.

haha I am excited to hit some of the buffets... I want to bring a cart for someone to wheel me around it.  :haha:

oh..i like the sports book.  put $5 on some random game.  sit at the tables..put a bunch of angst on your facial expressions..

and start drinking FREE beer.

maybe fill out a KENO card or two every so often.

i dont gamble either.  but the siren's song of free beer.............that is a seductive babe!

wait a second?  are you there superbowl sunday?

Nope, that would have been crazy though. Maybe I would have bet on the game.

I was thinking about penny slots in front of some TVs. I could watch TV and press play every now and then. Just enough for them to see I need a fresh one.

I'm not familiar with KENO, I'll take alook into that too!

KENO is like vegas bingo.  very harmless..good for beer.

my mother in law is this tiny woman.  almost no body fat..metabolism of a wildfire.  she was (i've heard she has slowed down some) just like a competitive eater.  going to Vegas with her was like a double-dog dare.  she would text us relentlessly.  "come to the BUFFET!"

when we get there the cashier would look at us and recognize us.  she would say, "are you with the tiny Chinese lady?"...

"err..yea."

"well she already paid for you..go on in!"  keep in mind she sees HUNDREDS if not THOUSANDS of Asians.  my MIL must have honey-badgered this poor lady to get her to recognize us - having never seen us before.  or she asks every couple in our age group..

it was awful..i have never eaten so much in my life.  my blood turned to gravy.  my MIL will discuss the next buffet while eating the current buffet.

I second Fremont Street. Never know what you?ll see. The Ferris Wheel is nice. Any of the shopping areas in the casinos is amazing. The drop at Stratisphere is fun. Lots of great fun. I would recommend Hash House a Go Go for breakfast. Wife wasn?t sure she liked hash and she loved it. We were out there in November for the PBR. Our favorite place to stay is the Mirage. The place just gets bigger every time we go.

Thanks for the breakfast recommendation! I can certainly check that one out too. I just looked the menu and it looks delicious  :upthumb:
With everyone saying Fremont Street I'll definitely add that to the list too!

LOL!!!
I've been known to talk about next meals while eating on myself.

Another good spot to visit is Red Rock Canyon to the west. You can drive the loop or stop and get out an hike. It is only 30 mins from the strip. There is also a bass pro shop to the south of the strip with a Cracker barrel (since you like breakfast).
you can also take a helicopter tour of the strip and at night is the best time, pricey but really great view.
Hope this helps, I am local but dont spend a lot of time down on the strip, but most of the recommendation you have gotten so far Fremont street, hoover dam, yosemite, and grand canyon etc are good.

hope this helps

Ferris, first off welcome to the site!  :upthumb: :upthumb:
Second off thanks for the Red Rock Canyon recommendation. I just googled it and that looks like a neat place to go hike. I can definitely work that in.
Honestly the helicopter idea doesn't sound like a bad idea either.

Thank you for all of the help!

Wife and I where out there last year. I found Uber to be much easier, and cheaper than renting a vehicle if you staying around the city. Going to and from the Airport was real cheap using them also.

3 days there is just perfect, anything past that for me is burn out...........

Fremont is great for people watching.  The strip has amazing architecture, and is worth spending some time wandering.  If you enjoy hiking there is actually allot of really unique hiking areas within an hour of the strip.  There is a hotspring below the Hoover dam that is worth hiking down to, but only in the cooler months the hike is a death trap in the summer.

Welcome to the site, semperfidelis97!!! :upthumb: :upthumb:
I will definitely be enjoying the people watching. I can only imagine what kind of interesting and unique things will be going on after the sun goes down...
I really like the idea of the hiking too. I was going to wake up super early every morning to get a nice hotel workout in, then pig out on some breakfast, then rally everyone and try to do a morning hike. Then we can spend the rest of the day and evening wandering around and exploring everything else.

I've never used Uber before, I'll take a look into it. Thanks!
I kept hearing the same thing about the 3 day max, so that's why we are doing 2 and heading out of there.
