Heavy Arrow Set Up 550gr

I think most compounds can handle that arrow weight these days. It seems more and more people are leaning towards heavier arrows. In my opinion, acuracy matters more than anything. As long as the arrow hits where you want it and you have a reasonable setup, it should do the trick.

I used to have a 550gr setup and I loved it. Shot it out of a maxxis 35 at around 255fps. Huge FOC and it was tuned perfectly. The arrows didn't seem to stop when they hit animals.
The only downside was a lower speed, but with today's ridiculously fast bows 500gr+ setups are easily hitting 280fps (assuming you don't have a short draw length of course).
You shouldn't have any problems getting a bow to tune with a heavy arrow. I've always thought it was easier to tune a slower, heavier arrow than a light, fast arrow.

I don't know what you count as heavy, but I ran a 493 grain arrow last year using a 59lb set up. This was from a 2011 bow.
It was maybe only moving 250FPS, but it zipped through my elk like butter.
As mentioned in a post about it was very nice for dampening my bow noise.

I upped my weight to 502 last year. I do like the extra penetration and it is quieter too.

I'm shooting a 535g 5mm FMJ @ 271fps with 12.5% FOC out of a Halon 32.
Lots of benefits to a heavy arrow.
Better penetration - KE & Momentum
Bucks the wind better
Quiets your bow down
"Slower" arrow speed makes shooting fixed blade BH's more forgiving
Shooting a 471g 4mm Injexion @270fps with 13% FOC out of my Carbon Defiant.
Both rigs tuned really well with the mid-heavy FOC and BH's hit spot on with field points out to 70yds.
You can definitely see and hear the amount of energy transferring when the 535g arrows hit a target.

What bow , draw length and poundage are you shooting to get 290 FPS out of a 575 grain arrow ? I shoot a carbon spyder turbo at70 lbs at 30 in draw with a 455 gr arrow and I?m at 299 FPS every shotstx.dead.I said:Currently shooting 575 grain setup with around 13% foc.

He's gotta be pulling a bow that's at least a 32" draw at roughly 80lbs to get those numbers. The arrows do look pretty long so I'm guessing it's the draw length that is the big helper.brett8133 said:

My heavy Easton Axis setup is:
Axis .260 cut (raw shaft length) 29.25"
Easton 75 gr. brass insert
100gr. heads
3x AAE Max Stealths w/ slight helical
Total weight: 560gr
~275 FPS out of a Hoyt RX-1 Ultra 70lbs, 30.5" DL
I intentionally try to build around that 275 fps mark and these do tame bow noise on the shot. My go to is still my 510gr FMJ (5mm) setups (same specs as above sub the standard HIT insert) and am waiting on arrival of the 4MM FMJ's in a .280 with the new titanium outsert from Easton.

I shoot blood sport onxy but use a different weight forward insert that?s tigger but 30 gr lighter 29 in arrow 100 tip 500 gr arrow weight at 30 in draw 71 lbs 300 FPS puts me right at 100 lbs of kinetic energy . Shooting the new rx1 turbo with custom strings
