So how far will elk typically travel to feed? I\'ve personally seen them travel over two miles to get the grub that they want.

I could not be dogmatic about it, but based on where I have seen elk feeding in fields at night, and where they can be found during the day, I would say it is over five miles. I say this because the land between the fields and the bedding area is open shrub hills.

It could be 100 yds, or 5 miles. Elk will always try to make it as close as possible. The only way you\'ll know for sure is boots on the ground.

A mile or two.
From what my ranching friends tell me, elk are \'beggars\' and are lazy when it comes to leaving a good food source like a hay meadow.

In the mountains, I\'ve never seen elk walk more than a couple miles between feeding and bedding areas.

It sure can vary by area, but my general rule is that I draw a circle 2 miles from the feeding area and I believe that most of the time they are in that circle.
