How many shots do you see?

Bow 27 yards
Muzzleloader 68 yards
Rifle 112 yards

Weapon of your choice....
I'm very interested in how many ethical shot options you have in this photo?

I'm a little unclear what the intent is....

I only see one shot option and it's the same with all three weapons... unless you have more than one cow tag

If you're asking how many of these animals are presenting an ethical shot at this exact moment I'd argue 3 of the 4 with any of the weapons.

Sorry. To be more clear this was to be more of an ethical shot scenario.

Of the four elk presented in the picture.... how many of the four would you shoot given this scenario.

I'll edit the post.

A lot depends on what's on the other side of that hill. If I don't know what's on the other side, the bottom left cow is the only shot option I see with all three weapons. If I know what's on the other side, that can potentially change things for the bow and maybe muzzleloader. As confident as I am in my rifle, even if I hit the cow a bullet could travel through the cow and go a long ways. And if I somehow miss because the cow moves, or I make some awful shot, that bullet could go a loooooong ways.

Since I'm only a public land hunter, I don't feel comfortable with any shot presented as is.  Skylighted ones are tempting, but you have to know your target and what's beyond it.

They don't appear to in any hurry, so I'll wait until either of the bottom two cows turn enough to give me a shot.  I'm keeping the crosshairs/pin on the bottom left hoping she turns just a little more.

If that doesn't happen and they walk over the ridge, I'll check the wind and if good, I'll scoot over to the top of that ridge and see if a shot present itself.

The top skylined and the "Texas heart shot"(lower right) are out for me. Lower left is a good rifle shot quartering away, aiming for the front leg on the opposite side. The photo could be deceiving on the distance of that cow, but if she is 20 to 30 I like that shot. Again aiming for opposite front. Seems like she is looking at me alerted, so probably would wait till she looked away or started feeding again. Wouldn't want her to spin left, jump forward on the shot and stick a ham.

Welcome to the site WapitiJoeNM!  :thewave:

With a rifle, the only one I see as ethical (at least for my skill level) is the bottom left cow. The top 2 are skylined and are not good shots to take because you don't know what's on the other side or where the bullet would end up.
