How to pack your handgun

I know many of you have probably seen this picture before. But I\'ve been noticing quite a few new users on the site recently. So I figured it was about time to bring up the discussion on how we all pack our handguns. ( If you pack one).

Here is a picture of how I do it. It is a Glock 27 in .40 SW on a Badlands Superday pack. The webbing on the waist belt is just the right size to stuff an auto into. I sewed a Velcro retainer on it. Other than that there are no alterations.

I got the idea when I was confronted by a couple of nasty sheep dogs one day. I had my Glock in the holster that Badlands has on some of their packs between the belt and the side pocket and I couldn\'t get it out without unbuckling the waist belt. Good thing I didn\'t need it in a hurry! :mg:

Anyhow, I figured there must be a better way and this is what I came up with. I haven\'t posted a picture in awhile. So I hope this works!

Good post Bill!

I also have a SuperDay - here is how I carry my S&W 40 Cal.
Its prob not as quick release as yours.
The SuperDay has a standard holster on each side

i just have mine in a paddle holster on my belt. it stays with me that way rather i take my pack off, leave it on, sit on it, etc. oh, its a springfield xdm 45 with buffalo bore 230 gr plus p solids. for the brush anyway. critical duty plus p for carry

My pics dont show it, but put a piece of electrical tape over the barrel end.
I found that when I take my pack off the barrel goes right into the dirt

Now that is a good idea.

Anyone else use electrical tape for rifles, etc.?

I haven\'t, much, but I\'m going to start doing that.

we used electrical tape on our barrels on rifles and ML all the time been proven time and again it blows off before the bullet ever gets there and won\'t affect the shot. Only time I didn\'t was I had a muzzlebrake on one gun(boss) pulled a balloon over it to keep sticks out mostly when on your shoulder. If nearing an area I though I might see something as I took it off my shoulder I pulled balloon off. wasn\'t ideal but scared to have a twig go down barrel too. (Side note reason for not taping break was we tried it at home and sometimes tape would stay on one side of it. didn\'t see difference at 100 but scared us to try at longer distances.) Preffer a gun without a brake on it now as dad brother and me all about have hearing loss from that dang thing i think. Handguns we usually get holsters with closed ends usually on pants belt and back pack belt going between gun and body leaving handgun accessible same as if you didn\'t have on a pack.
