Howdy Lady\'s/Gentlemen - Questions?

Not trying to be controversial. :angle:
Maybe I can gain the courage to post more of my previous kill pictures or take the first legal animal.

Like I said, I love seeing them and hearing the stories behind them. It\'s nice that we have a medium here where we can do that.
\"Every Picture tells a story\"...I never seem to get tired of seeing the pics and hearing how it went down :)

Something I\'ve been surprised about when I talk to non-hunters is their frequent comment about whether or not the animal gets eaten...as if there are some hunters who just shoot things and then have the option to just leave them there.

It goes something like this...\"Well if the hunter eats the animal, I guess it\'s OK\".

Their perception of hunting is so far from the truth that I don\'t even know where to start with them.

What it tells me is that there is a very large disconnect between our world and theirs. We need to do a better job about communicating that leaving animals to rot violates everything we stand for.

I am sure if the non hunters were educated and listened with an open mind most would not be against it. It might not be for them but at least the wouldn\'t be against it.

Some don\'t have an open mind. They are brain washed and won\'t listen.

So true. I guess we need to qualify our hunting photos with \"cut it all up and humped it out two thousand vertical feet back to the rig\" .

The amazing thing to me is how the \"anti hunting mentality\" is such a skidmark in historical terms. Maybe the last 50 years or so. Hunters have been around for a couple hundred thousand.

It\'s a true testament that everything has gravitated toward the \"easy life\" in our country. Everything is prepared, packaged, and readily available. Just have someone else do the killing for you (and all the work). :x

Just makes me wonder how we got to this point.

Something that comes to mind is our society\'s focus on feelings rather than the rational mind.

\"How did that make you feel?\"

\"Here\'s what I feel about it.\"...not \"Here\'s what I think about it.\"

In a world devoid of rational thought (\"oh, that\'s where meat comes from...\") it\'s all about how it feels, and killing feels cruel to them. When hunters enter into the natural world of killing and eating to live, we enter into a world that makes sense...but may not make sense to those who have lost their common sense.

Well said!

john you saw a pic of my small bull last year. im not a bit ashamed of him. an would be happy to shoot another one this year, if a cow comes by shes in trouble to. like most everything else in life, its all in the eye of the beholder. i would love to kill a bull like jaquamo or cnelk etc kills, but im happy with an elk. if its legal its a trophy.

I am not a big trophy hunter, so I may shoot the first mature animal I see. I may not. It just depends on what I want to do with the remainder of my season. I would like a huge bull every once in awhile, but I am not too concerned about that either. I do not want to show off any blood or a severed head to the public, but I am a bit of a braggart. I will let an antler stick up above the pickup bed if the canopy is not on. I like people to know I am a bow hunter, and bow hunters can be successful. It is a sad fact that many people still doubt the legitimacy or effectiveness of archery hunting.

oh-o. newbie asking the tough question? TROLL!!!

hahaha..just kidding. glad to see you around J!

i dont think posting up a pic of an animal disrespects it. for me, it isnt a photo of some random animal. it is a photo of someone\'s accomplishment. just like the taxidermist work up on the wall. as a person that has not killed that many animals, i admire other\'s accomplishment that much more.

as stewards of the sport..we need to be careful, WHERE you post it.

it aways bothers me when i see those IN YOUR FACE hunting propaganda pics. i think they hurt more than help. i know some idiot that hikes around (for exercise) in southern california with a backpack that has \"my food eats your food\" embroidered in blaze orange on his pack.

as individuals, we all draw a line where we feel we are respectful. some guys eat EVERYTHING.. they dont want to any bit going to waste..some donate all the meat..

this is a great question..for a newb! :D

Welcome, JF. Glad you decided to come out of exile. We need your brain. Bet that\'s the first time you\'ve heard that. :D

I\'m not a trophy hunter either, although I do have a couple of accidental trophies hanging on my wall. They just showed up first. I shoot the first adult animal I see because I\'m a meat eater. I\'ve had more than my share of tag soup and have had plenty of time to create some delicious dishes that go beyond the tag soup course. I\'ll be happy to share my recipes with the rest of you elk chasers that haven\'t learned to just react and not think.
