Congrats to everyone who has got an elk so far and good luck to everyone else.
Great thread

Chased a small bull around the rim of the mountain. He was heading to the bench we found elk while wcouting. Came in with the wind in our favor but called in another damn hunter...hunting the bench with his wind to his back. We jumped up 1000 ft elevation and called him to the top of the mountain, side skirted and dropped back in on the bench. Saw tons of crap, a really (dripping gooey sap) rub. They chase will commence right after a quick snack and let the legs rest. Been at it since 5:15...6 hours of hiking.

Did you at least let him know you were there so he does not follow you around?

So windy! So tired! I may try ground blind hunting where we found all the fresh poo (20+ all within a 100\' radius).

Legs and lungs need a break.

Guys. Today has been another crazy day. No elk, but now bears.....

Which I hold a tag for.

NM is a quota state and once the quota is at 90% they close it. Well it opened sept 1st.

Now fast forward to this morning. I\'m sitting here at a water hole and out of the corner of my eye I see movement. A monster black bear is coming right in. So here is where I mess up. It\'s only been a few days of the season and the quota is high, but I convince myself that \"well if it is closed, then I\'ll get fined or lose my license for shooting this\" because it is my responsibility to know. Well..... I called game in fish today to verify when I went in town..... still open......

Dag nabit. I was 35 yards away from killing what looked like a 250-350 lb 4 or 5 year old black bear.

Darn!

Anyways. I go back in to hunt (which I\'m doing as we speak)
And I decide to try a new area. I\'m walking to straight up a cliff that is a burn area with timber pockets mixed all over. 10 minutes into my hike I am 62 yards away from am absolutely beautiful chocolate bear.....

12 yards closer and I would have shot.....

Anyways. Back to elk hunting

Just went and set up another tree stand for my son.
This morning he had a cow, spike and bull all around him.
Drew on the cow but no shot came.

The new stand is in a better wind location and only 250 ft from the other one.

I think it\'s a dandy location.

Nice background cover on the stand Brad. Hope Cole puts down another nice one.

Dan it sounds like you are having plenty of action. :upthumb:

Congrats on the double.

Gonna have a bunch of Elk meat to eat that\'s for sure. Nice to have help on the pack out too

Cole heard some bugles tonight. Always a good sign.

We met up with Aaron J today and he also had bugling last night.

It\'s picking up now

Just got back to camp after scouting the ranch. Saw over 200 deer and a herd of elk with a big six point. Whitetail s and muleys. One 8pt whitetail probably 150\". Several bucks 130-140. Shooting starts tomorrow.

:upthumb: go get em...!

No meat hauling here.
This morning I went out with cole and sat in nearby tree stands.
I did some calling in hopes the elk would come by him.
Wrong.
They came right to me!

So this evening he went solo :)
It has to happen for him tonight or in the morning as we are pulling stakes after the morning hunt.
