Sorry for the delay. I was deer huntn this morning and made good on the one day I had to hunt. Posted him on the deer forum. 3 more work days then 24 days of elk/bear huntn. Good luck all!

Well dang! I expected some 400\" 8x8 bull

Congrats on the nice buck Will :upthumb:

We are back out on stands now. Different location.
Had a nice relaxing afternoon. Shot a few times, took a nap.
Let\'s make opening evening a bloody one!!!

2 elk encounters. Still hunting. Dark timber. Almost had a shot at the bull.

In a multi trail funnel leading to a big swampy wallow.

Back in same stand as morning. Hoping to see a pattern but not holding my breath.

No pt restriction unit so a spike better not wander too close!

Let\'s make it happen.

I simply can\'t take this. I still have a few weeks before I head west. Makes me want to take off tonight. Go get \'em guys and gals. Can\'t wait to hear your stories.

Got more info from other hunters. Elk are low. They just weren\'t appearing in my morning drainage area.

Tonight, I had a buck at 15 yards but not a shot opportunity with quartering to, plus I was initially looking the wrong direction when he approached.

We are back in the same stands as yesterday morning.
Last night Jarod had a bull go by his stand at 40 yards but the elk stayed in the thick stuff.

Then when got back to his truck there were 3-4 elk feeding out in the meadow 80 yards away!

Cagey SOBs :)

I back in the same area as yesterday. Last night was really slow for me. The bulls must have went down the other side of the ridge. Oh well. Did see a nice little bear and got some pics of it.

Everyone in my group has seen elk so far just no shots yet.

Don\'t want to jinx myself but may have a spike down. Hit it a little back as he was walking.

He bedded down where I can occassionaly see antler. Wild scenario up to shot.

Waiting at least an hour.....tick, tock!!

If he\'s dead now, he\'ll be dead in an hour, too.

Waiting is the right idea.

Hard to go wrong with that approach! Good job, and if you have a visual, you\'ve likely got him!

Another young bull he was with came back and got him up.

Moving like 90 years old. Can\'t see him now.

Other bull came back out circled an area then went back in cover. Figure he doesn\'t want to leave the one I shot.

May be several hours instead of one! Got a cow tag so no reason to get down.

Very cool temps around river bottom so meat will stay cool.

I like the way isn\'t. think John!

I can see the other bull. He bedded by a log and i thought it was the
One i shot but isnt. Figure he\'s hanging close by. Can\'t get out of stand without him seeing me.

Will wait another hour or go check if other bull gets up and leaves.

Waiting really sucks......not quite as bad as a marginal shot though!

Got text from Dan but their coverage is lousy. Said congrats to me but no mention of NM elk.

If you think it was too far back, give him about 4 hours. You have all day to let that big old Stinger do its work. Sounds like you get to try that new knife out pretty early this year.
