Hunt Update Thread

Anyone want to send me their phone number via private reply and examine a couple of pics?

Can\'t get them to download off my phone. Too big. Will try to resize.

Bull got up and walked off with other one. Found arrow. Blood on vanes but I didn\'t see an exit wound when he walked off. Possible bubbles in blood from where he bedded.

Update:
830 this morning a freight train of elk were coming thru the timber right to my stand.
I see them.
3 of them.
I draw.....

The thunder train of elk were 2 calves and a big cow.
It was mayhem.
They ran right to my tree and wouldn\'t ya know it they went on the backside.
I went NAAAA! And they all stopped.
I\'m still drawn.
I turn to the right to see the calves out 20 yards
I couldn\'t see the cow.
I pivoted back to the left and there she was under my stand!
When I moved she bolted and wouldn\'t stop.

Dang!!! So close

But I have seen 7 elk from that stand in the past 2 mornings so that\'s a plus!

Russ,

As you can see from my texts, Bill and I think alike.

I\'m thinking you hit back and hit liver, Judging by the arrow picture you sent me. If you say you saw bubble in a blood pool that could be a nicked lung. I agree. Wait 4 hours. He\'s dead, he just needs time to figure that out.

Dave is going to post pics. Nerve wracking to say the least.

Appreciate everyone\'s input. Probably didn\'t mention this would be my first elk with a bow so part of my anxiety!

Congrats Russ! That\'s awesome...arrow & blood on ground look good. I think like others that he\'s dead and you\'ll get him as long as you don\'t push him. He may have gotten up because he is hurting and that was his last bit of energy. If that\'s true you will find him not far.... But, I would wait until you have about 2 hours of daylight left and then start looking. He will be fine and he should die by then.

Good luck!!! You won\'t lose him by waiting, you could lose him if you go to early and bump him and the other bull.

im getting bad flashbacks from the same anxiety that I had last year..... I hope yours turns out better than mine did. I agree, be patient..... I wish I would have given mine more than 3 hours!

I have to agree with others that I think you\'ve got a dead bull there Russ, and I\'m also going to agree to be patient. We lost a cow last year that had a pile of blood like that. Didn\'t give her enough time and we bumped her. Once that happened, the blood trail disappeared. So be patient and best of luck!

I\'m more worried about the meat spoiling than getting the horns. If he dies in the willows, I won\'t have much time.

Its been 5 hours since the shot and 2 since he got up and walked off.

Stand hunting in the mornings huh Brad? I thought that was more of an afternoon deal for you and you would do your circuits in the mornings?

No experience on elk but a lot of WTs. That arrow and blood definetey display the evidence of a mortal wound. As most have said, time is on your side. The old saying when in doubt, back out applies. After 4 hours I would proceed cautiously and I think you will be quartering and packing. Congrats

Derek
They aren\'t responding to calls, no bugling and its #?????<?<??<* hot!!!
Windy too.

So we have found them and hunting them soft.

Just need the stars to align now

Tonight is it for this weekend.

Good luck Russ!!!!

Brad ... tough break, but there\'s still time. Wind really screws things up.

I\'m headed back out this evening, then perhaps in the morning. Spent today packing food for 2 weeks from now. Heavy! But it\'ll work.

Tomorrow is \"it\" for a while on the cow elk, probably until October, due to other priorities on the ranch. It could happen any time, but I\'ve got until January 31.
