Hunt Update Thread

In town for a shower.

Nada yesterday and this morning.

Yesterday, windy. @7pm, storm came in. Overnight heavy rains. This morning, cloudy and wet. At 8:30 am, wind got weird. Now, new storm clouds moving in.

For my opening morning location, fresh sign has finally turned up. I was 1-2 days too earlier for that spot. Tonight & tomorrow, others are hunting that spot, so I have to pass.

Starting tonight, switching to evening deer hunting within half mile of camp. The elk also come to the area while traveling between drainages. With rain for evening hunts, I prefer to be closer to camp.

No one has the elk responding to calling, so I did ambush only the last 2 days.

Congrats to those who got one.

It was a tough packing job, too!

I feel like I should apologize at this point.

With the back door of ya pickup open it reminds me of a ol\' story I\'ve heard and told but that will be for later...

I hope ya ain\'t plannin on puttin her in the back seat...

And for the rest of ya, \"hang in there and geterdone\"... :upthumb: :upthumb:

Unfortunately no news wasn\'t good. Looked another 2 hours in 8\' willows through mosquito infested hell and didn\'t find another bloody bed or flies or magpies/ravens. I took an I\'ll advised shot in the heat of elk fever and should\'ve passed or waited for broadside.

I\'ve been shooting good in my range and this was within it so wasn\'t pushing it. There\'s 4 more weeks of season but that never crossed my mind.

Still have a cow tag for redemption.

Thx everyone for the support.

CR - that stinks...sorry for you. I know you must feel bad. You aren\'t the first to have that happen and you won\'t be the last. Although we all try to minimize the chance of this happening, in the heat of the moment the possibility in most instances still exists. We can\'t control everything ~ or even \"most\" things. I have had \"CLOSE\" misses that could have been bad hits. I have had two bad hits that I\'ll never forget.
I would imagine that most on this site are similar. My condolences....

Like riding a bike. When you fall off, you get back on and remember what you did that made you fall off. You are a good hunter or you wouldn\'t have been in that situation in the first place. Go get that cow.

Sorry Colorado Russ but it happens to all of us.... Got get back out there and keep on keepin\' on....

been there a few times with deer russ, i know how ya feel, as do most on here. that will pass. keep after it and remember the rush you felt. i thought i read this is your first bowhunt. if so, getting the first one is always the hardest. hang in there.

Russ,
Sorry to hear that, I was really thinking you might find him. I\'m truly convinced that elk are one of the toughest creatures on the planet, and if bumped, can walk virtually dead on their feet for miles. Been there, done that :(

Get back in the saddle...redemption is coming!

Russ,

I thought for sure you would be packing elk by the looks of that arrow. Sorry it didn\'t workout for you.

Sorry to hear that Russ. As everyone has said that\'s part of bow hunting. I\'ve had the same thing happen on deer. Keep your chin up and keep after them.

Sorry about the outcome Russ.
But the longer a person hunts, situations like yours happen.

I have been told by some guys that they have never lost an animal.
My response is \'you will\' or \'quit hunting now\' because eventually it all catches up with you.

Why? Because the world is round. And when it bites you, it\'s usually in the a$$.

It is a tough deal for sure.
dont let it discourage you.
Your tag is still valid. Use it.

Sorry to hear Russ that is a bummer but I\'m with Brad, shake it off and get back out there!

Here are a couple more pics from my trip. First, old bullet I pulled out of my cow.
