just saw Bowhunting TV. Danny Farris was elk hunting on his granddad\'s ranch in NM. his grand-dad passed and they threw up a younger pic. his name was Floyd Thomas.
here is the CRAZY part. i knew a tall cowboy guy. he took my brother and i under his wing. my brother and i were late teens, maybe early 20\'s. unruly Chinese kids. barely an interest in hunting. this guy was bigger than life. big giant Diesel ford with some huge aux fuel tank. he drove FAST and never needed to stop for gas. this man was named Floyd too!! i cant remember his last name..since he had us call him Floyd. we drove up, following him to Gunnison CO to hunt elk. (i think i told this story before) my brother and i forgot to take a hunter\'s ed course and got to CO to find we couldnt hunt. we were crestfallen, but the bug was planted. i wanted an elk.
i remember the ranch perfectly. it had a dam and a tiny turbine generator that created electricity from the running water. he kept telling us of his grandson that was the best elk caller..and how he would help us.
i never got back to that ranch, because i went to college (and discovered girls)..and i lost touch with \"Floyd\". my Stepdad was his friend and i asked all the time about Floyd. i still remember that drive to Gunnison. we stopped for gas in Las Vegas NM and some guys pulled up next to us and taunted us for being chinese. they were pulling back their eyes and cussing at us with crappy chinese fake chinese accents. i cant remember what Floyd said to calm us down..but i do remember him doing so. i like to think it was some Sage cowboy wisdom.
looking at the picture..i think Danny Farris\'s grand-dad was the same man that got me into this elk thing.
i tried to reach out to Danny via Facebook. i\'m dying to know. i think it is him.
