Anybody else draw any tags in idaho? If any body has any info on unit 18 I would surely appreciate it. Let the scouting begin!!!!

Congrats, sorry no info from me, I haven't spent time in the area.

I didn't draw my Idaho elk tag but did end up drawing Unit 70 rifle deer tag.  I'm not too bummed about the elk tag though since I drew LE Manti archery elk tag in Utah and also a draw archery elk tag in Colorado.  Gonna be a busy fall!

Congrats.  I put in for the unit 18 rifle bull tag for the first time this year and drew. I've only hunted the area once for whitetails, but it's been a few years. I typically bowhunt in Eastern Idaho and Montana, so this will be bittersweet for me.. Rifle hunting in a draw hunt closer to home  :)  but not archery hunting.  :(

I've been spending a lot of time mulling over google earth and various maps. Taking my first scouting trip this weekend.

I plan on scouting once in July, once in August and twice in September. If you need an extra hand on your bow hunt for calling and packing, maybe I can help you out. It would be good exercise and scouting for me and would help you out as well by having a calle

Which unit in Colorado did you draw an archery elk tag if you don't mind me asking? I also drew an archery tag in southern Colorado. If its the same unit, maybe we get together on the mountain talk a few areas over. I'm going 67.

PM'd you

I'm heading up tomorrow morning to scout for a couple days, probably going again last week of July. Let's stay in touch.

Hey man congrats! I drew the tag last yearbut didn't harvest. I stalked to within 70 yards of a 330 bull but never got a shot due to getting pinned down by cows. I would hunt more on the back side if possible. If you only have the option of hunting of hunting the front side I would hunt in the shingle creek drainage on the front side. I got into some elk there. Also if you head up the seven devils road and take a right on road 487 head down the road about a 1/2 mile and there is a big canyon on the left hand side and a spot to camp on the right next to a knoll. We camped right there last year and a guy killed one within 100 yards of where we were camped. If you head off the left side from we camped there is a wallow about 200-300 yards of the road at the head of the big basin and we got elk to talk but never saw any. Also if you walk down the road about a 600 yards and bail off the left side there are a bunch of elk wallows there. On the north side I hunted Kessler creek and had a spike at 20 yards just no shot.  Also take road 420 to where the ridge trail starts. The ridge trail runs the length of the main ridge separating the east and west sides. We hiked down that a a mile and bailed off the east side by a big clear cut and had two rag horns a forty yards but had no shot. Also down of that side is where I got in on that big 330 bull. Only had three bulls bugle the whole time. I would take as much time off for hunting as you can. I hunted 16 days total. Hope this helps and let me know if you have any specific questions. Good luck

Thank you for the info!!!! I appreciate it. I will look in to all the places you suggested. I might pm you for some info on how to find these roads.
