Idaho

It will probably cut down on competition. That non refundable hunting license will probably deter a lot of people. Did you put in for anything?

Good luck in the draw. I don’t know about the rest of the state but up here in the panhandle we are having an incredibly mild winter. Hopefully it stays that way and winter kill doesn’t occur.

Thanks.
My biggest issue will be the bears. My buddy in Idaho Falls tells me there’s more issues than get reported.

I’m certain that there are a lot more grizzly bears out there than the fish and game would like to admit to. I don’t know why they would lie about that but they seem to in my opinion. That or I just happen to encounter the very few bears they say we have frequently.

On a positive note it seems like the foundation for wildlife management has been having a noticeable impact on wolves. I haven’t seen one in years and I haven’t heard any or seen tracks from any in a very long time.

Montana does a good job of tracking Griz. They have most of the bear's DNA on file and track them. If you are hunting near the border, give them a call. We were hunting on the border and they told us about two that were nearby.

So, every area has a National Forestry building where you can go and get maps and ask questions. So, it depends on where you are hunting. We hunted around Troy Mt. We went to the one there and they explained how they track the bears. They put barbed wire on trees with bear scent. The bears come up and scratches the tree to mark it. The barbed wire catches the bear's hair, and they do a DNA test on the hair. Not all are located but most are. They will also tell you where they relocate the nuisance or bad bears.

Thanks.
Ya, and friend moved to Montana a few years ago and bought a house. The realtor neglected to tell him that the FS released nuisance bears basically in his backyard! Dave walks around the yard with a.44 on his hip, so he’s happy now.
