Is anyone planning something new for 2018?

Im working on a plan for Wyoming elk this year...trying to figure it out
Im getting closer with my points for ND Mule deer and Lope hunting.

I'm trying to decide on that same. (WY elk)

I've got three PPs and my goal for WY was not a long term game. More of a plan to find somewhere I can hunt every couple year. I'm trying to decide if I want to cash in 18 or 19, but it's happening soon.

I also think that I'm 85% using my antelope PPs next year.

I'll bring this thread back to life. 2018 should have the following:

North Dakota: Trying to take a mule deer with my bow is number one priority. I should have cameras out soon enough to see what kind of whitetail survived this year also. I have an application in for spring turkey and as always I will be fishing my way to the fall. Then once fall hits, its game on with the birds!

Montana: I haven't decided to put in for just an elk tag or an elk/deer combo, but either way the plan is to hopefully chase elk because I am no longer in New Mexico.

Colorado: If Montana doesn't work out, I will be driving down to Colorado to try my hand at an elk.

New Mexico: I know technically this is the 2017-2018 season, but the year is 2018 so it qualifies :p . I leave two weeks from tomorrow for a DIY Barbary sheep hunt! I was successful, last season so we will see if I can pull off the double!

Minnesota: The plan is to get in the north woods and take a black bear. No so sure on this one yet, but it may make the list.

South Dakota: The plan is to take a speed goat with my bow, but I have a feeling my wife will make me choose between either the goat or the bear :(

I've got some updates on what's 'new' for me this year:
- Hunting a few different areas for archery elk. Plans are in place on a couple of spots and need to scout a couple of others.
- Hunting a completely different unit for rifle elk. I think we're close to settling on a location.
- Hunting mule deer with a bow. Can't wait for this one!
- Throwing a hail marry at New Mexico for elk. Never done it before, but figured why not at least try?

My NM apps have been sitting in queue since mid January and I don't know if I'm going to be able to make it until April....

I've got a good feeling again this year!  :upthumb:

Looking like GMU 55 Colorado for 2018. I?ve been there before for a couple of days.  The group will be different. I?ve hunted with some in the group so it should be entertaining. What I really plan on being different is being more mobile. My past two hunts out west were sticking with one area the whole time. This year I hope to have multiple locations to try until I find elk.

I think that sounds like a great plan Steven. I?m working on the same thing myself for this year. Surprisingly it?s not as easy as it sounds to have a bunch of different options in certain areas, especially if you have a few folks in camp.

I'm planning on going on my first ever elk hunt. I am thinking of applying for a Montana general tag with Colorado as a backup. That being said if anyone is looking for a hunting partner or wants to give a beginner some advice about either state I would greatly appreciate it.

Welcome to the site robloft!  :welcome:

Depending on where you are considering for Colorado I might be able to help out. Never been to Montana though.

Hit up Ivar88. I believe he's also exploring MT as an option this year.
Feel free to ask as many questions as you want on here, there is a lot of knowledge floating around these part.  :upthumb:

Thanks. I honestly never considered a diy elk hunt as feasible. Always thought you had to hire a guide and spend a lot of money to elk hunt. I've learned you don't have to hire the guide or spend as much money as I thought but it's still not cheap. Thanks. I'm sure I will have plenty of questions over the next few months.

This year my hunting buddies and I are looking to start filming.  We have played with it a bit, but going to start posting on youtube this spring.  Hoping to get several bear and elk kills on film this year.  Or at least have fun trying. lol.

I'm planning to help a buddy in the WY Bighorns and hopefully call and elk in for him as he's not gotten a bull in a long time!  I'll bowhunt in CO with some others but mostly looking forward to revisiting WY and more excited about that hunt than my own!
