3 months and 5 days before I head out to Colorado. I'm trying hike a couple miles every night lifting weights and working on cardio too. I'm down 22 pounds with about 15 more to go. Scouting secondary areas on GE and trying to get all the gear I need together. I'm taking my bow to the archery shop this morning to double check timing and put the 70# limbs back on just to get that extra little bit of KE.

Other than that this rookie is ready (yeah right). How about you...

I'm right there with you rich, it's under three months until I leave. I'm just looking for ways to make the time go by, however I am loving every minute of the excitement of getting ready. I too have spent countless hours on GE scouting.

...not even giving me a chance!  I'm officially under 190 and heading for 180.  Ran a 2mile in 14:25 last night which is still cutting time off and my weight lifts keep adding on the lbs.  This is going to be a great Season here in MT!  The one thing I could be doing more of is shooting my bow.  Commence new goal in 3...2...1...

I'm so stoked but stressed as there is little time for me to prepare...my season here in Nevada starts Aug.1 with archery antelope then archery deer August 9 and my coveted archery bull August 25.

In the mean time I have 3 weeks of annual training coming up with the National Guard and right after that it's family vacation time to Mexico! This leaves me about 2 1/2 weeks to get some quality prep in....ugh!

in the last week I've shot 135 arrows  :)

Hey I think every elk hunter out there is feeling the pressure now! So far 2013 has been the busiest, craziest, most insane year of my life. Dec 29th my wife gave birth to our third child(and only boy). Then we bought our first house April 9th and remodeled it then moved in. NowIm running 3 times a week and hiking with a weighted pack at least once a week. p90x thrown in there sporadically and theres a rumor going around at work that our boss is trying to go to a 50 hr work week, all in all im exhausted but i have an archery deer tag archery elk tag and a cow rifle tag! So come august all this will be paying off big time!

we ran our first half marathon today. Went well just another step to getting us in better shape for our elk hunt

Montana, I figured I'd better be quick or you'd be on it... Lol

Bird dog, Ill pick you up at the end trip and you can come along with me and dad. 6 eyes are better than 4...

Rich if I shoot one early and get some overtime in and get some extra vacation I'll stay out for an extra week and chase bulls with you, but I might have to go home with you too cause I don't know how the wife will take it.

These months can't go by fast enough for me, the sooner the better because I am deployed. I am nervious about getting home after it, I will only have about 3 weeks of shooting my bow/scouting time before elk season starts and only about 1 week after i get home for speed goats. So it should be interesting trying to joggle everything between family (most important) work and getting ready for bow season after being gone six months.

Sounds like 2013 has been good to you. Congrats on the birth of your son and your house!

With all the training we have been doing don't forget about the kids. With all the training and running I do I still MAKE time for my twin granddaughters. I do my best to spend time with them each and every day. Don't forget your kids, they are the greatest thing (or things) in your life.

This last year was my first full year without being on crutches for some period. the last two years have consisted of ankle surgery and working towards getting ready for hunting. I feel much better, playing soccer again and working out. Lost 6lbs so far and will probably loose another 8 or so before the season opens. I'm excited :)

New to the site fellas, but looks like i picked the right one! We got a bunch of Beastmode die hards here.. Glad to be apart of it! I myself have been itching to put another meat missle into an elk since Sept. 20th. Training harder and harder every day, CAN'T WAIT!!
