Didn?t draw a deer tag for CO, anyone ever get a leftover tag by phone or are they hard to come by?

There will be some leftover tags available for sure, but make sure the areas you get them for can be accessed. A lot of the leftovers typically end up being for units with very little or no public land or they are private land only tags.

I got the leftover lists today for deer and elk, don't know why I got the deer list because I drew a buck tag and saw the charge on my CC. But it's pretty slim for the leftover draw right now I think.

I?m curious why some got the list and others didn?t
I always select the leftover draw option and didn?t get it

@CNELK,
Leftovers as I understand are the result of managements designated tag amounts and the resulting supply and demand actualized in the draw.  They might utilize other factors based on the number of applications that are actually submitted.  But, I haven't read or heard of any audible type of actions they make post draw.  Most likely they determine management objectives, set the number of tags based on probability of meeting the management objective then conduct the draw.  Any units not fully desired and therefore given to a hunter are deemed "leftover".  Their process as stated in this video is somewhat enlightening.

As mentioned above, looking at this years leftovers, there's only a couple options worthwhile.  The land owner tags seem abundant.  The only problem is finding the landowners who won't charge $1000+ to hunt.

This is exactly what they do. The weird thing is Colorado ends up setting the number of tags AFTER the draw every year. I've never understood that, but it is what it is I guess.

I?m fully aware of how the leftover system and tag allotment works.

My question was is why some were emailed the leftover list this year and some weren?t.
I?ve gotten the list for many years and like to study the data trends.
