Not sure why I need a new setup to kill a cow but I\'m sure excited to have it. Sportsmans warehouse had their balloon pop sale today. I felt like I was in Vegas rolling the dice! Popped a 15% off and the guy who wrote me up and I gave high fives. Ended up costing me 595 plus tax. It was a good time for sure. While I was waiting for the background clearance I wandered over to the ammo and found some sellier and bellot nosler partitions in 180gr for 19.99 and then got 15% off them as well!

Tikka T3 superlite with fluted barrel in 300WM
Vortex viper pst 4x16

Waiting on a set of lightweight talley rings and a lik saver recoil pad and she\'s ready for the range.

I already have some pretty bad issues with my hearing from shooting guns when I was a kid so I don\'t really like the idea of a break but I might get one for bench use and then leave it off for hunting. I guess it depends on how it shoots! At 7.5 pounds with the scope I probably already know how it will shoot though!

I think that\'s a good plan if you go that route. Get more bench time in with it on.
When I do mine, I will keep it on for hunting too, I will just have ear pro around my neck at all times and HOPE that I remember to put it on before I shoot.

a 300 at 7.5 will definitely say hello to your shoulder :upthumb:

I use chuck hawks recoil chart as a reference, but a 8.5lb 300 win mag (not including scope) pushing a 180 grain will recoil at 25.9.
We could probably put you between 26-27.

With a break, being fair with 40% of a decrease, you are looking at 10.4-10.8 off of your number bringing you to 15.6-16.2.
To put that into perspective, it would kick less than a .308, 30-06, and a .270.

Pretty neat if you ask me!

In real life terms. Check out this with and without video of a muzzle break. Makes me want to go and get 2 installed!!!

I almost fell over laughing when he sent that rifle tumbling down the hill :haha:

It made a statement though!

One thing to just keep in mind if you use a break for the bench but remove it for hunting is that the point of impact will change. If you do decide to go that route, be sure to sight in the gun again without the break before a hunt.

Or just keep it on the whole time!!!!!

Derek, does yours have a break?

Derek is right, the POI... Also the POI on you shoulder will change also... :mg: :mg:

I have a muzzle brake on my Winchester Model 70 300 Win Mag and it has less recoil with a 180 gr bullet with a muzzle velocity of 3200 fps + a little, than my Tikka T3 lite 270 shooting 130 gr bullet with muzzle velocity of around 3100 fps....

Everyone I hunt with tell me they know who\'s shooting when my 300 Win Mag goes off... :D :D If only I could hear them... :p :p

Mine doesn\'t have a break, for similar reasons to uscdryder. My hearing is bad enough and there are very few times where I have had time to put in earplugs before a shot. Mine puts out punishment, but I do most of my practicing from a prone position instead of off a bench, which helps a lot. And when the time comes to take a shot at an animal, I never notice the recoil :D

To hear you guys talk about these 300\'s make\'s me feel lucky. I own a Browning X Bolt 300 win mag with no muzzle break and can shoot a box of shells out of it with no problem. I don\'t know if mine just weighs that much more or what. Shoot my grandpas old 30.06 kicks like a mule compared to my 300.

I have a Browning A Bolt 300WM. It does have a little kick. I get 1.5\" groups at 200 yards with factory loads. Never taken it hunting though :(

That\'s a good point Jarod. The gun needs to be comfortable enough to shoot that you can practice with it for extended periods of time. You also don\'t want to develop a flinch.

Got everything put together. The limb saver air tech pad is nice. Almost a perfect fit out of the box. I need to move the scope back a little. The eye relief was good on 4x but on 16 it was too far forward. So here\'s he question...

Do you loctite the scope mount? I didn\'t initially but I am thinking some purple loctite might not be a bad idea, especially in a magnum load.

Growing up on a ranch, I had the pleasure of getting kicked by a few animals. The worst was a 1200 lb 4-H steer that kicked me in the back and cracked a rib. I never wanted to experience that again...

A 7.5lb 300win mag...maybe not a 1200lb steer, but holy mackerel!!!

I got through 11 rounds, cleaning in between rounds and called it a day. Most shots were pretty good but I pulled 3. 1\" and and right when I flinched.

Gun was fantastic, super smooth action and fits well. Vortex scope held zero and was crisp and clear. Going to be a great mountain gun.

Does the 7.5 include scope and rings?
I can imagine that is a thumper, but you\'ll be loving life when you are scaling those mountains with ease.

I carried a 10lb gun last year and then borrowed my buddies 7.5lb gun and it was amazing how much nicer it was.
You don\'t feel that thump when you\'re looking at an animal in the sights!

Best of luck to you this year.
