New Gear for 2017

Ok gear Junkies; does anyone have any new gear or ideas for new gear in 2017 that they can\'t live without? Would be nice to know what products you are all looking at and reviews if you have bought new gear already.

I ended purchasing a Kuiu Icon pro 5200 pack. I have loaded it up with all my gear and started hiking. So far really like the pack and cannot believe how well it distributes the weight. My pack weighs in at 50 lbs.

My other big purchase was some new boots. Scarpa tech ascent GTX approach. Again very happy with how they handle the weight of my pack. My last pair of boots were irish setter\'s and were fine until I put my pack on.

Last year I went crazy. This year it\'s been quiet thank God! I did upgrade to the new kifaru frame. I might pick up a new pair of rain pants if the deal is right. Other than that I\'m ready! Oh dang it, I bought some new arrows too.

I going to buy another Cabelas Outback Lodge tent next weekend. They are on sale then for 100 bucks off. I have one now that has been to CO 11 years now I think. It\'s a awesome tent for the money. Has never leaked and has stood up to some nasty winds. Only problem with it is the zipper on the door is junk. They redesigned the door and put a rain fly on the new ones.
I might look at another popup blind for turkey hunting this spring. I like to have two and one of mine didn\'t fare to well in a heavy snow storm. My own fault since I have a support pole for it and I forgot to bring it with me.

Im all set.
After getting all my stuff for my Alaska moose hunt last year, its nice to sit back and see what everyone else buys :)

Picked up a Delorme InReach from REI last week for an insanely good price. It\'s the pre-garmin model, but that doesn\'t matter to me. Also, picked up a new Tikka T3x Lite in .270 that should put some damage on a couple deer this year!

I have trouble doing this. I didn\'t spend much on gear last year so I am splurging a bit more this year.

I have been looking into the Inreach. I am looking for some new trekking poles also. I cant seem to find a pair that get good reviews unless you spend a 100 bucks not buying into this.

I\'m similar to Brad in that I don\'t really need any new gear this year...but I have also been considering an InReach. If I got one, I think I could sneak in a few more days during archery season by hunting solo. My wife isn\'t a huge fan of me doing that right now, but that might give her the peace of mind.

I am about set with all I need. I am getting a new bowstring and replenishing my freeze dried meals. That\'s it.

The only new thing is a can of bear spray seeing how I am bivy hunting in the heart of Grizzly country.

No major \"needs\" this year for me ... but I do need to upgrade a few smaller things:

-- New camp chairs.
-- A better glove system. (I get terribly cold hands, and I\'m starting to think it may be worth it to step from the $20-30 range to twice that to get something good.)

-- I may be looking at getting a new ground blind for pronghorn hunting.

This year, though, I\'m looking to SELL stuff. Spring cleaning should bring a bunch of stuff to the classifieds.

Big ticket item for me is boots. I need to find a good quality pair that protects my ankles real well in tough terrain. I have rolled my right ankle numerous times and want to make sure I have great support. I have been using Danners forever and last year in MT my new Danner Gilas where like wearing a pair of skis in steep terrain as I had no traction at all. I have been looking at Crispi, but will look at more before my purchase.

The other item is Im going to pick up a Heads Up Cow elk decoy

John, silly question but have you ever tried mittens? They don\'t work in a shooting situation with a gun or bow, but I have had the same cold hand problem over the years. I got a pair of ski mittens from REI and they are TOASTY. If it\'s a cold morning, I wear those for a bit until it warms up. Can always pull one off if you expect an upcoming shot too.

Mittens ARE actually on my list. I like the idea of a light glove under a big mitten.

I\'ve used wool glove liners for year... US military surplus and Swiss military surplus mostly... I use to get them from a local military surplus store but since they closed their business I now get them from Sportsmans Guide.. I just looked and they are out of the Swiss but the have some Czech military surplus that look like they may good also...

The Swiss wool liners are 100% wool and probably the warmest gloves I\'ve ever worn!!!

I went a little crazy last year and outfitted myself with a bunch of Sitka gear, Man I love that stuff. This year all I need is a new bow string and I will be all set.

Cnelk2, look into the trekking poles at Costco. They are carbon fiber and only weigh 16oz. I bought some two years ago and they are great! The good thing is they are only $30!!!!

I was looking at Crispi boots but went with Scarpa. I might still get a pair just to try them out.

i had them just about to stuff my long awaited Mystery Ranch Metcalf pack into a box and ship it to me..when i heard my wife scream that we owe a lot to taxes. and supplemental property tax for our new house.

while the pack $$ is relatively tiny by comparison..i KNOW my wife well. i called and cancelled the order just to save her some energy eyeballing me from the dinner table.

that was all i wanted..i deferred it to next year..whatever. i sure has heck dont NEED it.

i do want a new carbon Hoyt tho..that is to swap to a lefty bow. that is NEEDED..hahah.

I usually stock up on gear on Black Friday and after Christmas/end of year sales. Two years ago I purchased a Hilleberg Nallo 4GT. Exceptionally made tents. I always wanted a great solo tent, so I purchased a Hilleberg Atko tent end of last season on sale, but haven\'t used it yet.

Tick, I purchased some FirstLite Grizzly \"lobster mittens\" last year for a cold weather glove and used them with a light glove like you were thinking. I really liked them, they are pretty big gloves, but the more loft the better insulation. Each one has a wrist strap, so you can yank them off and they will be attached - hanging from your wrists, so you won\'t lose them. The lone trigger finger (the rest of the fingers were in the mitten portion) was too big to fit into a trigger guard. I really liked them, they kept my hands warm when glassing for moose. If that price point is too high, I also have some Cabela\'s down mittens that I use for glassing and ice fishing, along with a liner glove that may fit the bill for you. The down mittens are not waterproof, so that may be an issue depending on what seasons you want to use them.

I also buy from Sierra Trading post and subscribe to their email list. They are going away from their huge sale and percentage off coupons, but while it was in place I purchased some Aku Seria GoreTex Insualted boots that were around $300 for $185. They were a little too big for my regular foot size, but I thought if I put on a heavyweight sock it would fill up the space. It did somewhat, but I figured I would get too many blister/feet issues on my mountain goat hunt if I wore them, so I used my Lowa TechLites. The Atko\'s were great in the snow on my moose hunt, and never leaked and kept my feet warm. A really well made insulated boot if you like stiff soled boots.

I bought Kahtoola KTS crampons for my goat hunt. Didn\'t have to use them in the snow, but they were invaluable when taking the goat down on my back 2000\' on soaked ground in very steep terrain. They dug into the wet terrain and kept my footing secure in some rugged areas.

I also purchased Sitka Timberline pants for my goat hunt. I liked the built in knee pads, suspenders and tough double material on the seat and knees. I tore about an inch of the seat\'s first layer, as I had to slide down on my rump in some areas too steep to walk down safely. But any other single layer pant would have torn completely over the rocks I was sliding over. It is a warmer weather pant so it worked great for that cold hunt.

I purchased a TruBall Tight Spot back tension release, as I have never shot anything but fingers and wrist trigger releases. The Tight Spot has a safety, so it should be good to train on.

The Kifaru hunter frame I won last year really performed well. It is more comfortable than the previous duplex frame. I paired it with my EMRII pack.

This year I will be looking for a new rifle scope and rings for the Browning AB3 300 Win Mag I won at the local Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation banquet a few weeks ago.
