Nighttime activity with no moon or predators

How active are elk at night in areas without wolves or grizzlies when there is no moon? Are they still up feeding especially in the pre rut and rut?

Yes they are! :-D They tend to be more out in the meadows and will spend the dark hours between feeding and napping. Elk can see very well in the dark so that is no problem for them. You can often hear cow/calf herd talk as they keep in contact during the night. And often some bugling or glunking during the rut period.
