I informed my wife that we were eating the last of the elk last night and she made me crap my pants. \"You gonna get another one?\"
\"nope, didn\'t get drawn in NM and didn\'t apply for CO\"
\"Can you buy a tag?\"
\"In CO, but not where I always hunt\"
If she\'s seriously considering sending me a 1000 miles to try to fill the freezer, what would you suggest I do, OTC in CO to shoot the first adult elk I see?
Any suggestions?
If I can get out there and get it done in a week, I think I can talk her in to coming along.

Ok. Let me get this straight. The door of opportunity has opened for the chance to go hunt elk.
Hmmmm....
Dude. I would swing that door wide open as fast as I can.
Tell the wifey she is coming along and start packing. :)

There may be a guy or two right here on BTO that may want some company for an elk hunt
If not go any way, and like you said shoot the first legal adult elk you can.

Just like me. An OTC tag is your option. Way better than not hunting for elk. Way better. ;)

Look at it as challenge, learn a new area, and enjoy the adventure.

I hunted a totally new area last year and had one of the most fun hunts ever.

Barry,
If you wanted to offset some of the costs of the elk hunt in CO you could buy a cow only tag and that would save you $155.
This is a very good option if you want to see lots of bulls :)
Happened to me

I am very excited now. I missed the application deadline so I never considered it, but found out I can get a leftover cow tag for $275 just a few miles from where I am deer hunting in WY. So now I just have to extend my trip and bring a pack. :dance2: :dance2: :dance2: :dance2: :dance2:

Yep, going out to NE WY for mule deer/whitetail the first week of Sept. with dad and a friend. Its an easy ranch, stand type hunt for only 5 days with not a lot of elk on the ranch. However, a few mile closer to the Black Hills, there is apparently a lot of elk and leftover tags. A bonus is that it is about half the distance of CO and the tag is half the cost, plus I\'ll already have my archery license. BONUS, BONUS, BONUS. HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY.

p.s. I\'m going to keep that spot I found in my back pocket. Gonna try it out someday! Thanks for the input, Brad.
