OTC Idaho or CO??

I know CO is known for great bulls and Idaho has good numbers as well.

Trying to plan a DIY base camp hunt for 2016 and want to be able to concentrate my efforts. Early season archery is the only season we are looking into. Early to mid/late september time frame. First elk hunt, possible group of 2-3 guys.


What state would you recommend and what units? Thanks!

I know you said archery, but have you thought about possibly muzzleloader? Idaho has an awesome cow elk hunt for muzzleloader in unit 39 for controlled hunt ( 500 tags, pretty good odds as well ). I am going to be doing that hunt this year as I didn't get my first choice bull tag. Everyone wants to take a bull, but I am a meat hunter so I'm pretty stoked either way. I would do CO. There are a ton of bulls elk here and they are usually less difficult to locate in September.

No elk in Idaho just a bunch of wolves.  Colorado is your best bet.
