Prescouting Study

I have to admit I have forgotten why I was called Hootie. I remember Mtnmutt liked the handle. I suppose there are several reasons it could fit. Probably it was due to the amount of time I spend perched in a tree, or because I told the story about calling to an owl this past summer. We did sound like brothers. I would like to think it was the universal recognition here of my wisdom, that was the cause, but for some reason I have my doubts.

Yes, we called you Hootie because you cant call in elk but you are a fine owl caller! :) I think I also remember hearing a story about some buzzards hovering over you. Is that a sign that your time in up soon? :eh:

 It takes some kind of skill to consistently call in owls for those perfect quartering away shots.

Just like the Elk, the owl hung up on me. I had returned from Skeleton, and was getting ready to drive back to camp right at dark, when I heard the rascal. Shooting light was pretty much gone, but my official shooting hours calendar said I still had a few minutes left. Well I got the owl to come in to about 60 yards. It would answer me call for call, but would never break out of the trees. I could not see how big it was, but it sounded like a wall hanger. Finally I came to understand it was just taunting me for being a miserable failure all season hunting elk. Finally with my bow still in the truck and all of the arrows still safely stored in the quiver, I drove off. I don\'t know if I left the owl educated or broken hearted.
