I have decided to re-gear all the biggies this year I have decided on a pack I have decided on a new bow now im down to a new uniform or out fit i know Sitka is big here but KUIU, Columbia, and ASAT"first light" are all on my radar is there a company out there that makes gear that i'm not looking at or in put on any of these would be appreciated. I'm building an all weather system base layers mid layer outer layer i need something i can wear in the desert and in -4 snow sleet rain and sun. My last rig has lasted for over ten years but its time to refresh and replace. Keep in mind i have bills to pay lol this is a year off from hunting elk to pay for all of this. im  trying to keep the price under 5-6 hundy

cowboystl1,

There are a lot of great options, and clothing has evolved a ton in the past 5-7 years. I personally prefer Sitka. It works great for the style of hunting I do, and there are multiple configurations available that allow me to change out a piece here and there to add versatility for other hunts/conditions that fall outside my normal ranges. The only downside to buying the best is the price. When you look at Sitka, Kuiu, and Kryptek, they are more expensive than other gear for a reason. If you truly want to get something that will last and work well, I would suggest looking at those three companies. You'll pay more, but it'll be well worth it.

For an elk hunting package, I would suggest the following:

Sitka Mountain Pants ($189)
Sitka Core Crew LS ($79)
Sitka Jetsream Vest ($189)
Sitka 90% Jacket ($229)

That puts you at $686 retail. That is the exact system I use, and will cover you for 90% of hunting conditions you will likely experience.

Many thanks,
Corey

Thanks Corey i know im gonna spend more than i say i am but thats my price id like to hit I completely for got about Kryptek i need to have a look there as well trust me i am gonna get the best i can afford i have done the cheap way and paid for it dearly. all my gear will be bought through the year so i can piece it out hope fully i will catch some sales and such to help reign in the cost. i appreciate the input and the Kryptek reminder i knew there was at least one i was over looking.

I am getting geared up with as much of the Core4Element gear as I can this year.  They are doing away with their MM line for it is all going for really cheap.  I have the Element Jacket, Highline Pants and Pivot 1/4 zip so far and am only around $250 so far.  From reading all of the reviews it seems like it is great gear.

never even herd of core 4 elements but i like the marino stuff very cool thanks  i might just have a hodgepodge of stuff lol

I use Kuiu everything and have been extremely satisfied. My partner has Sitka everything and has been extremely satisfied.  We both dress the same.  Long sleeve t's with vest, pants, and jacket.  For Kuiu- Attack pants, Merino 185 T, DCS vest, Guide jacket.  For Sitka- Mountain pant, Core T, Jetstream vest, 90% jacket.
You'll be satisfied with either, I just didn't really like the Optifade pattern.  Kuiu can be frustrating to find the right size.  Good luck.

If I was in your boat, I would be looking at First Lite.  The items I would recommend are:

Kanab ($160-180)
Llano ($65-110)
Chama Hoody ($115-135)

That will make you in a set for $340 - 425.  That should get your through 90% of what you will face in the field.  If you want a good cold weather jacket, then you would finish it with:

Uncompahgre ($225)

then your whole setupwould be $565 - 650.

how is the springer vest ? have you tried that? First lite is definitely on my list im really looking at side  by side comparisons at this point iv made a list of full sets of each line and am going over pros and cons i am partial to the merino wool over tech poly blends especially for base layers but feel i need the outer layers to be wind and water resistant.which pulls me back to the poly blends

Look into sticks and limbs camo,  I am joining their staff,  great open patterns, works here in Idaho, and worked for me in Kentucky hunting white tails!

thats cool! but honestly i dont mind the pattern im looking for function over all i mean honestly my military bdus i have killed more game in than any camo pattern in on the market in multiple states. im looking for and outer set for weather of all conditions a base layer group and a mid layer group for my core. i have more camo than i can shake a stick at im on a pro staff my self but they dont have what i need for mountain back country trekking.

I haven't used it, but you can read up on it at http://www.firstlite.com/campfire/2013/10/24/whats-in-your-kit. I don't think you would be disappointed at all if you went with First Lite.

I just reached out to a buddy of mine that does have the vest and he said that it does amazing in the wind to combine the chama hoody and the springer vest. I hope that helps.

Merino wool over manmade every time when it comes to base layers.

OK; it will not dry quite as quick as manmade, but merino wins handsdown when it comes to no odour. It will also keep you warm when damp

All the mentioned hunting clothing companies are excellent, I personally have both Sitka and Kuiu, it's all personal preference on camo pattern, I use to be huge into Max-1 camo, then Optifade Open Country came out and I wanted that pattern, but with the introduction of Kuiu and the Vias pattern and design, I personally prefer their products. At the end of the day it comes down to personal preference. I do recommend anything base layer to be merino wool, nothing compares to merino.

see i like the whitetale pattern of sitka but im not a fan of that pattern i like both kiui patterns but honestly the pattern is last of my concerns im looking form function and price. but great info all is appreciated

I just broke down and bought 2pairs of Sitka pants. Probably go with kuiu shirts. Asat is good stuff a lot of my buddies wear it. I think kuiu is the better of the clothing makers. I go with what's gonna feel the best on the boys after 4 days of solid wearing. I know this doesn't help but I tried

I went with C4E, since you can find these on sale a lot. Been happy with the performance, comfort and price.

I have most of the open country line from Sitka and have been pretty happy with it.  I think all the companies mentioned are probably comparable and it will come down to personal preference.  I think the budget breaker would be having to add a set of rain gear, that alone can cost upwards of $600 from any of these manufacturers.  If your fortunate enough to hunt in a relatively dry environment then you should be able to get a pretty solid setup in your price range.
