Our WI rifle season opens this Saturday.
I\'ll be joining 6 or 7 hundred thousand of my closest friends to carry on the tradition.
If the \"Bad Guys\" ever wanted to invade the United States, they would not want to do it on \"Opening Day\"
Good luck to all and have a safe hunt.

\"On a lighter note\"

They where saying on the radio today that Wisconsin\'s deer tag sales are the lowest that have been since the 70\'s.

Wonder what the reason for that is?

Hey Rudy I will be over there with my brother in law and nephew. We will only be hunting the first two days. First rifle hunt I have done in many years.

Historically low deer numbers in a large portion of the state and terrible management by the DNR are a couple of reasons I can think of.
5 or 6 years ago, for several years, a fella could shoot a couple of deer a day in most counties as the DNR and insurance companies wanted to lower the population. We had CWD found in several places and they wanted to drastically reduce the numbers in those areas. Don\'t even get me started on baiting!!!! Couple that with 2 or 3 pretty severe winters and you had the \"perfect storm\" for a low deer population. Now in about the northern third portion of the state, you can\'t take a doe with any weapon.

I know it\'s up to the hunters to self-regulate their kill. but there are a ton of folks that will kill all that\'s legal, just because they can.

Also, now with the new set of regulations implemented, you have to have a lawyer with you just to figure what tag to buy and where to use it.

Update::

Passed on a couple of basket rack 8 pointers.
My partner\'s son shot a dandy. Sat on the ground at first light, grunted softly twice and he came in a running!!
10\" of wet snow and 25-30 MPH winds, I came home to this!!! My wife\'s 4 Runner took a direct hit.

Nice Buck there!! And bummer on the tree. (Where are you at? I\'m in Northern Illinois here near the border and we got hammered yesterday with the snow)

Thanks for the info on the permits there as I grew up and started my bow-hunting in Wisconsin but have not hunted there in 15 years. When they jacked up the prices I just stayed here at home as there was better quality hunting to be had. My parents still own land near Black River Falls but I have not been up there in a long time.
