I found an tree on my property a few years ago that I suspected was an apple tree. Confirmed it yesterday, it had one apple on it. It needs some pruning and fertilizer, any other hints. Arborists speak up. Stump is about 6\" and has a nice crown, growing in fairly open area, Nearest apple trees are 200 yds away, think I should plant another for a cross fertilizer?

Quickly scanned, seems like some good info.

is it crazy overgrown? a tangled mess?

if not, i think i would just start a fertilization program. get it healthy before i went in and wacked it up. i\'m a tree rookie, but i do not prune until the leaves drop.

It\'s out in the open so it has a really nice crown. There is a bunch of dead interior branches that I plan on cleaning out next winter. Gonna clean up around the base and throw down some fert today.
