Saw some elk this weekend

Was glassing first thing in the morning, this past weekend (Aug 8).  Saw a bunch of elk. Surprisingly, I saw several bulls in with the cows.  There was no bugling or breeding activity (obviously), but  surprisingly those bulls were checking cows, licking, etc as the herd was feeding. Been about the earliest I've ever seen those bulls in with the cows doing that. 
Unfortunately, wolves started howling shortly thereafter and ruined the show.  Oh well.  Still interesting.
