Scouting for archery mule deer in Colorado

This is the first year I have both an elk and deer tag for archery.

My new area has 3 or 4 basins right at or slightly above tree line, within a mile of my spike camp.

What is the best way to scout for the deer? Should I blast through where I think may be, or find a good spot and glass the basins? If glassing is the morning or evening the better time?

Personally I would try to glass if I were you, morning or evening. You can cover a lot more ground with your eyes and might be able to find some patterns versus jumping one \'blasting\' through the woods.

I would do the same for elk as deer. Glass in the mornings & evenings and get a plan.
Just hope you dont see elk and deer in the same area!

Which one would you pursue?

I tried that a couple times. And about the time youre making a move on a deer, an elk pops into range...
Then while youre deciding what to do, both opportunities have passed!
