Im going to Wyoming this weekend to scout elk!

Deertick invited me to go to his elk area to do some scouting and set some cameras with him.
We will leave Laramie 7am on Saturday, drive to the trialhead and then ride 2 horses with a pack horse to camp.
Spend the day looking around, camp overnight and the next morning and get back to Laramie in the afternoon,

I consider this a great opportunity, and am really looking forward to it

Sounds like a great way to spend the weekend. Hope the two of you find the honey hole. Pics, we certainly will need pics!

I\'m really looking forward to getting a new set of eyes on the country I\'ve hunted for a couple years. Everyone sees things differently, and Brad likely \"sees\" a lot of things I would otherwise walk past. I very much appreciate him going along!

There\'ll be some photos to share on Monday, for sure.

Back in my whitetail days in Nebraska, I used to think it would be neat for people to scout each others\' hunting spots just because everyone picks up on different things ... and I knew I wasn\'t hunting \"my\" property \"perfectly\". Of course, whitetail spots were closely-guarded secrets back then (like elk spots, I guess) and I never really asked anyone to just come look at things and tell me how they would hunt it.

I credit this forum for this opportunity. Even if we can\'t scout each-others\' territories in person, we can do it \"virtually\" through the forum.

Very cool guys, anxious to hear how it goes. Brad, you might be onto something there...watch what happens when John fills his tag this year. I can already see the dollars stacking up!

Packed and ready to go ... should be a good weekend to be out and maybe test the raingear ... new batteries in the cameras. Can\'t wait to get into the high country.

Make sure you slip a couple rocks in Brads pack :haha: When he finds them tell him you were helping with his strength training and the guys from here sugested it :train:

Sounds like a fun trip. I have only seen the east side of Wyoming traveling to Co. Someday I\'m going to take a trip to check out the rest of the state.

One thing I will say is I have seen some huge Mule deer bucks in the middle of the night driving through. :)

I\'m ready. Everything packed in my SuperDay and my saddle is oiled up.

Back from the trip ...

Great trip ... I learned quite a bit from Brad ... and it was super to have someone else to look at the area and sort out alternative ways of hunting it. We got a stand up, and sorted out the elk movement patterns a little better. We did see elk, but, as has been said before, seeing elk isn\'t everything ... we saw sign and patterns of many more.

I can\'t thank Cnelk enough for spending the time out there and helping me scout for September. It\'ll be all on me if I don\'t connect this year, because I\'ve had great help from many folks this year.

(Having trouble uploading photos tonight.)

It was a great time for me too. In ways I cant believe

The scenery was awesome. It was nice to see green, live evergreens again!

Enjoy some of these pics. I will post more soon

This morning we woke to the pitter patter of some rain so we had a fire in the stove to heat up some coffee and take the dampness away

John has some really great horses. I have ridden many horses over the years and these are some of the best

The view from camp as the they grazed in a meadow, and them tied up on the high line in camp
