Ok frontal shooters, here is one for you.

You\'re doing some cold calling and you\'re about to give in and move.
You start packing up your gear and you hear something coming.

Here comes this nice bull and he is coming DIRECTLY at you.
He hasn\'t seen you yet, but wind is swirling so you are a little edgy.

You range a bush and draw back.

You\'re at full draw and he hits your mark and stops.
He knows something is up now and he\'s standing at 28 yards.....

Are you shooting or not?

I don\'t take frontal shots, but if i did i\'d pass on that one. Too much brush in the way.

Nope. 28 yards is too far ... He could easily move, and :upthumb: vital zone is not exposed.

For the frontal shot, what is the max distance that you want for that shot?

Are we talking around no more than 15 yards?

It\'s more than just a short distance shot.
It\'s nice to have the animal coming in looking for something behind you.
I like to be at full draw before the elk gets into the \'window\'

I am guessing this is easier having a caller behind you bringing them in?
Or are you able to do it by solo calling and just bringing him in on a string?

No shot for me.

To your last question, yes. I\'ve done it solo a handful of times. Its all about projecting your calling or moving after the call. These things in conjunction with setting him up to have to come look will bring bulls into your lap even while solo.

28 yards is too far for a frontal for me.

15 yds or less...no problem.

Every one I\'ve taken has been under 10 yds.

The brush is not an issue to me. It is too far now, but if the bull moves ahead and cuts the distance in half, I\'m a shootin. :D

When I first joined the site and people started talking about how good elk are at honing in on call location and will come right in on you.

Seeing how this shot seems to be so successful for people it makes me feel a bit better. I\'ll still be able to pull off a good shot and not scare it off.

I do want to try some solo set ups this year though. Call and move. Call and move.

I can tell you, it\'s a rush to be at full draw, and have a bull stop at 5 yards looking \"through you\" to see where your call came from! If that doesn\'t get your heart hammering...nothing will!

That sounds absolutely fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I cannot wait to experience it :upthumb:

Last year when I hit my cow call and had the 4 different bulls run in on me it was the craziest experience ever! Watching those elk bugle from only a few feet away drove me nuts.
