Shoot or not...

I\'m beginning to feel sorry for the one with the warts. Maybe I would prefer to remove him from the gene pool.

The DOW can give me an extra tag for that purpose. Otherwise i\'m shooting the healthy animal I plan to eat.
 
I dont think those spots on the left bull are anything more than tufts of hair raised up by his scratching himself with his antlers.
Or maybe sap from trees.
 
I am agreeing with Brad on this one.
When animals are rutting, some of them look like crap because of all the fighting, dogging, depleting of fat storages and more.

The bull on the right is just winning :p



I\'ve also see whitetail that have patches on their back from working over rubs and licking branches.

When they are leaning their heads back they can scratch and poke themselves.
 
I\'d shoot the one on the left too if he was alone. However, with a choice i\'m going for the one on the right. It would just be a reaction without thinking about it.

Has anyone ever killed an animal with warts on either their insides or outsides?
 
You know, now that I look closer at that elk. I\'m not sure i\'d shoot it. It might be nothing as Brad said, but i\'d have my doubts. I always like to shoot deer/elk with nice coats.

I have a friend who\'s 100% Cheyenne, and I give him all my hides. He makes all kinds of stuff out of them.
 
the bull I shot in 2012 - unit 61 had a spot on his left shoulder, not sure what from, maybe a fight, antler poke?
There was no hair, but no damage underneath

I have to agree that the bull on the left just doesn\'t look healthy. I noticed it a little bit in the first pic, but now that I see the second one Dan posted, I think it is even more evident. Look at how thin his neck is compared to the other bull. I haven\'t ever seen it in an elk, but could that be the early stages of chronic wasting disease on that bull? Something definitely doesn\'t look right...
 
Just to be clear. I\'d shoot the bull on the right, but certainly not in it\'s position in the first picture. They\'re fighting, and will be moving around a lot. No reason for any quick shots. I\'d wait until I can see both lungs. If it doesn\'t present itself I saw a good fight.

I notice some almost seem desperate to take a shot no matter what. Be patient. It\'s part of hunting.
 
I just don\'t think it\'s an issue and it\'s probably just from fighting or his horns...

That first pic makes him look better. He looked scrawny for some reason in those other pics.
