Spotting scope for summer scouting

Do any of you tote a spotting scope during your summer scouting trips?

i usually take binos for sure. i find i NEED to see animals to validate an area..it motivates me as well.

july 12th i am hiking way up to a hidden (i call it hidden) valley system for an overnight scout trip. my pack will be super light since it is just a short trip..so i will take a tripod and spotting scope. i can afford the weight penalty.

i think peeking in from afar will be good as to not alert the local herds, that danger (me) is coming around.
