3rd season Elk in NW Colorado we had tent with a stove but that wouldn't last all night, slept on cots but no pads so for me I would get cold from below any ideas to help stop this, we were only allowed 50 lbs of gear, couldn't bring everything
Get a good pad. That's got to be the priority. Drop the cot if can't cut weight anywhere else. If you have to choose between the two, you'll sleep far, far better with the pad and no cot over a cot and no pad.
Helinox makes a light weight backpacking cot that only weighs a pound or two. Is that what you are using, or is it one of those standard Cabelas cots?
so this is a not a pack in camp? when i have used a cot, i put a pad ontop of it to add a level of insulation. if i'm hiking..there is no cot. i'm not carrying any cot.
I tried a mattress only once during cold weather camping and ended up putting a pad on the mattress since the mattress eventually got cold... That was on the canvas floor of a tent... Just my experience and a mattress at base camp my work for others...
