Planning first hunt and I'm figuring for my food supply. What everyone's thoughts on ready to eat meals from an army surplus?

MREs are fine, I've used them and you can find some deals.

Having said that, I think they are heavy and bulkier than I like and have a good bit of waste packaging that you need to deal with.

Great point on the bulky/weight. I know guys who will open each package and weed out the stuff not needed.  You can definitely reduce the footprint of the stuff.

MRE's thanks for the correction. I've never dealt with em that's why I am asking. What do you normally pack in for week long hunts?
