I haven\'t bought a Covert yet but it\'s on my list. This is based on Dan\'s one pic of the elk splashing water and it\'s crystal clear with the water caught in mid flight. SOLD!

Agree on there are many factors and someone can always get a lemon or may not work as well based on how it\'s set up.

I\'ll have 5 maybe 6 out this year. 3 on public(fingers crossed I\'ll have 3 at end of season) and 2 on private in NW unit then may put #6 down on backup private land in Alamosa.

Got 2 Browning, 2 Wildgame Innovations and 1 Moultrie. All seem to work just fine.

I have a couple of bushnell\'s that have worked great. Can\'t remember the name of my other one, but don\'t like it as much as the bushnell\'s.

Went to cabelas and looked at the browning cameras. The website had them for 149 less 50 bucks. I found the same camera but it had a picture viewer. Took it to the front counter and asked the manager of he would price match since they didn\'t have the same model. He said this was the newer model but he\'s price match. 99 bucks...pretty excited about the picture viewer.

I have a couple of the mp6s. One takes about 1000 pictures a week. If it even thinks something is moving it takes a pic. The other works perfect.

I don\'t know why but I am somewhat meh on trail cameras. I guess I have snapped so many pictures with them over the years that it doesn\'t excite me since in my experience it has very rarely translated into me actually killing something.

Let me bring you to check out elk cameras or my Oklahoma cameras and we will see if they get you excited....

Sounds good.

I will admit....I killed my biggest buck because of trail cameras. Maybe I\'m just lazy? :(

Some people knock them, but I believe game cameras are an extremely valuable tool for scouting.... if used right.

The browning takes 8 AA batteries. Can I get away with alkaline for a 1-1.5 month set? A lot cheaper than the lithium a!

For most cameras, yes....
Some HATE those batteries though.

My browning does fine with the alkaline.

Gian, both of my browning work fine on alkaline batteries and a set will last a couple of months if you don\'t use video and make sure branches/grass isn\'t in the way. $99 is a steal!!

One of mine has the viewer and I\'m on the fence about it. Cool if you\'ve got 15 or 20 pics to look at and don\'t want to take the card back. Not so cool if there are 1000 and you\'re clicking through them one at a time. Keep in mind the camera isn\'t going to cycle through your pictures like when it\'s on the computer so slower. It does provide a bigger screen for setup which is a positive.

I kind of like the security code feature too but sure there\'s an easy way to erase or reset and only game camera thieves know how!

Something you might consider is using a micro-SD card with an adapter. Will work fine in camera and you can take the micro card out and view on your phone.

Good info Russ. Thanks!

I am hanging the cameras on public land and so far I am not getting thousands of pictures. I like the idea of being able to view a few pictures to see if the camera is in a good spot or if I should move it.

I never though about putting the micro sd card in my phone. Interesting. Do you do it with an iPhone or android? I\'ll have to test it out tonight.

Android. It has an external memory card slot.

I agree the viewer is good for the use you state - check it real quick then leave or move it.

So it looks like I can set the camera to pictur or video mode. are there any advantages to video over picture? Other than the obvious you get a video of the animal vs one picture which might not give the best angle. Any disadvantages of picture over video? Battery life an issue? I am using a 16gb card. Space an issue?

The main downside is battery life and storage space... The upside is you get to see what the critter is doing during the time period you set the video instead of just a single picture... A 10 second video is 9.9 seconds of what you don\'t see on a picture...

You might try one of these if you want to look at the pictures on your phone. My bil has used one of these. Read the reviews and see if it might work on your phone. It wouldn\'t work on mine.
