Wall Tent Repair

Hey guys, I bought a old wall tent  and it needs some love it is 12x14 and the tent was made by Sheridan Wall Tent! So far I have replaced all the ropes and will do some patching on small rips and seams. It has an odor of must or mildew any hot tips on removing the smell? Should I waterproof it? If so with what?

mildew can be a real pain in the butt....


the easiest way is to go ahead and set up the tent, then you'll first need to remove as much of the surface mildew as you can, just use a stiff bristle brush.  after that, you'll need to kill the rest, use equal parts water & rubbing alcohol and rub it down with a towel real good.  then rinse it down good with the garden hose.  let it dry out really well.


once it's good and dry, treat it with Canvak.  My tent is 10x14 and i spray on 2 gallons for annual maintenance, basically just a light coat.  you might want to really hit it good the first time.  maybe 4 gallons and soak it up good.  takes mine about 1/2 day in the sun to dry after that.  after i roll it up, i store mine wrapped in a plastic tarp.


oh, and by the way, the canvak will do a number on the grass so, just be a little careful where you do it.
