Does anybody thinks its worth carrying a pump type water purifier for day trips. there is water everywhere where I hunt and its lighter than carrying a bunch of water. Opinions needed.

I would tend to drink less if I had to pump water each time I took a drink.
Take a quart bottle of water, [and your pump] then when thats empty, fill it, repeat if necessary

I picked up a Sawyer water filtering bottle last week. Quart size & will filter water as you drink from it. Walmart had them for around $28.00
Start out with a full bottle & just refil as you need, or cary in an empty bottle & fill when you want. They have a filter built in & is so stinking easy even an old timer like me can use it.

I always have a quart of water and a diet pop for my day trips. That has always been plenty for me. For emergencies I have a purifier drinking straw that I can drink directly out of a stream with. No pumping required.

yep those straws are in my pack usually never had to use one but like you said in emergency. hardly weigh anything maybe you may think about just packing a straw ?? :dk:

Wow. I feel like a camel! I have a 3L bladder that I carry along with my filter pump everyday hunting. I drink 2 of those 3L bladders a day while cruising the elk mountains. I think that most people who \"hit the wall\" in the mountains doing any activity are simply dehydrated.

Before I left for my trip last week, I said \"We have to stop and get some iodine tablets.\"

I always carry them. They are very light, and very easy to use. Most of the time, you don\'t need a \"filter\", you just need to kill the stuff in there.

Anyway, they really saved our butts. We got lost (my fault) and spent 5 hours out in the heat of the day that we weren\'t planning on. Had we not had those little pills, we\'d have been drinking from streams and risking trouble. For $12, I don\'t think they can be beat.
