By all means do not post anything about where you hunt on this topic. That's not what I'm after. I'm just trying to get a good forum started on what state you think is best for archery elk and why. Hopefully I will get lots of posts and there will be a large amount of info on here for people to learn from. Thanks lets have some fun with this

North Dakota ;) .  This fall will be Montana.
After that the states I would like to hunt would be Wyoming and Idaho in that order. We will see what this fall brings. I just love the western side of Montana so I am biased towards it.

Oregon, Due to the fact that you are able to hunt the Oregon coast where you will find the Roosevelt Elk and then the further you go inland you will get into the Rocky Mtn Elk.  Plus they offer OTC tags for resident and non-resident.  Idaho is another great state for mulitple OTC opportunites to take some nice bulls.

OK.......Serious reply.

Nevada. Due to the huge bulls and dry weather.
Idaho. Due to acre after acre of road less country.
Colorado. Due to amount of elk.
Washington. Because I grew up here and I know which tree to look behind.

Getting a lot of points in Arizona and I hope to add it to the top of the list in the next couple years.

I would like to hunt all of them however that is never going to happen so other than the state I live in Montana I would like a shot at Colorado and Idaho they just seam like my kind of hunting areas.

It's already interesting to me that guys living in the western states would like to hunt neighboring states for elk. I live in the east and would just like to live in one of the western elk states. It would also be nice to pay the amount residents pay to hunt elk. Randy Newberg just had an article about resident and non-resident tag costs in Bugle magazine. I am not complaining but I pay $40 a year to hunt/fish in NC. I think that is higher than what some of the western states pay for the chance to hunt elk.

Colorado would have to be my pick for my favorite, because that is the only place I have had the chance to hunt and the scenery is beautiful. Kentucky would be second, but tags are a lottery pick there.

Arizona.. Giant bulls, glassable country, even on the late hunts you're not hunting in A$$ deep snow, unless you want to

I am not picky, any State that has Elk is my favorite, if I have a tag. I just love Elk hunting, and really don't care what State I hunt them in.

I've only hunted ID and CO and have had success in both places.  Always done the OTC thing and haven't had a problem getting away from the crowd or finding elk in either state.  Going to ID this fall, so I guess that'll have to be my favorite for this year!

I live in central Ca and we have great elk hunting either tule or rockies bummer is a resident tag is $414.25. I guide in NM but as a non res its hard to get a tag unless you put in with an outfitter so the best odds for elk tags with good elk populations are Co,Id,Or.

my backyard, or close to it.  Live in Helena, MT and I can be hunting within 30 min and that includes a bit of the hike in.  Justdon't have enough time as I would like.  For me I think I would like to hunt NM if not MT.

Born and raised in colorado, my obvious choice is Colorado. Less than an hour from a limited entry draw unit and 20 minutes out from hunting an OTC unit. If I had the money to hunt other states I would be torn between Wyoming and Montana.

Utah, and only because in 45 minutes I can be in the country I hunt and an hour of hiking and I can be in my elk spot of choice.  I would hunt Colorado and/or Wyoming, but am not willing to pay the non-res fees for elk.

I have only hunted Montana would love to try New Mexico or Arizona, but doubt I will ever get enough points for that to happen.  But hard to beat the beauty of Montana.

I know its late but this is the best answer on the whole thread

I would have to say Colorado as my # 1 because i live here and I love that I get multiple opportunities each year(more experience). Then Montana as #2 my relatives own a huge ranch in central Mt thats full of elk, and some really big ones, the sheep herders find some monster sheds each year.

Utah for sure!  You've got every type of elk hunting possible here.  From the low desert and sage brush flats, to the high elevation thick pines and quakies.  And in some units you have the best of both.  I will admit they've really made it more difficult to draw in the area you want now with all the changes the states making
