What is next on your gear list to purchase for your next big hunt?

I need some screw in steps for a tree stand

I have a few things that I need to pick up this year, but I think my first will be a nice pack.
If those draws were legit, my deer hunt is horse country (and i\'ll be walking)

and Id like a better pack to potentially be packing out elk quarters :D

I could go hunting tomorrow with the gear I have and not worry about a thing.

So, I don\'t \"need\" anything.

Oh, \"want\"? Yeah, I have \"wants\", for sure.

But the one larger-expense item I\'m looking for this year is a new camera. Don\'t know if I\'ll get that because I just blew my budget for it with the purchase of my new tent, that I didn\'t really need, but sure did want.

Like Brad, I need a couple new treestands and some steps.

I need to work up a .308 load for rifle season, too. That will involve some purchases (new bullets, powder, etc.)

i just bought 2 tree stands and sticks. i dont need any hunting stuff.
but, i want a m&p shield 9mm, more 5.56 ammo and some varmint 223, reflex site, etc etc etc,lol

Are you looking for a new SLR or are you talking something more along the lines of a go pro to record your hunts?

Thinking actually about one of the mirrorless cameras with interchangeable lenses.

After all, I hunt primarily for photos. The meat will be eaten and processed in my guts. But photos are something I can enjoy when I\'m old and gray.

I still have to tell my turkey story. With that said I am buying some rage broad heads for my next turkey hunt.

I do not need anything, but the \"want\" list is always growing.

To save space, buy a Coleman Xtreme 150 qt Cooler to replace the (2) 62 qt Xtreme rolling coolers which take up too much space. I also have an ancient food/drink cooler that has a very annoying lid which opens from the end rather than the side. The food cooler may be replaced too.

I have a few items on the list, but on the top is a couple more game cameras. Work is going to take me through my hunting area a few times this summer, so I really want to take advantage and do a little scouting along with setting out some game cameras.

Also on the list is a window mount for my spotting scope, which will come in handy for my antelope hunt this year. I am also going to be picking up some new calls to try out this year. Could use another pair of hunting pants. Also need a few items for reloading including a case trimmer and more bullets.

I think I need more kids...this is a big list to get knocked out for Father\'s Day!

I would really like to get a Lone Wolf Assault II hang on treestand...mainly because it is very lightweight (11 pounds)

I just picked a new quiver yesterday, i needed something to keep my arrows between the cam and wheel. I bought my broadheads this winter. So, all i need is some arrows and a hud decoy to provide some flash with my not so great calling.

I changed my mind

I need a scope for my .308.......

This could get potentially ugly.

What is it going to be used for? What is the price range you are hoping for?

It\'ll be for my mule deer and oryx hunt.
Probably something that I can shoot 400 yards out or less and have that bullet draw strip in the middle....

Whatever those are called? :dk:

As for price range, I would like to keep it in the 300-600 range and not go over.
If I planned on rifle hunting more, I would pay more, but I am stuck to this bow for now.

I would look at something like the Vortex Viper HST or PST in 4-16. Both have great reticles that you can use for longer shooting - figure out how many MOA your bullet drops at x distance and use the hash mark associated. Or you can use the exposed dial and \'dial up\' for your distance, your choice.

The HST is normally listed at $559 and the PST (in second focal plane) is listed at $750. However, if you do some research you can find them both for quite a bit cheaper. I got a PST for $525 at this site, but it looks like they are sold out now: http://www.eaglevalleyoutfitters.com/magnified-11-24x. Another good place to check is http://www.scopelist.com/. They have listed prices, but you can submit an offer for a scope and they will typically come back with a price that is a lot lower than their listed price. There were other sites as well that I found these scopes cheaper, I just can\'t remember which ones they were. Just use google and spend some time, you should be able to find a good deal.

As far as the difference between the two, the big reason I went with the PST is for the larger objective (4-16x50 instead of 4-16x44). The PST also has a thinner reticle, which just allows for a more precise aim. The PST also has an illuminated reticle, but I\'m not sure how much that will ever come into play or be used.

Anyway, sorry for the long-winded answer, but those would be my suggestions in your price range.

I just dropped off my GoLite Shangri La 5 this morning to have a stove jack installed. A couple months ago I picked up a pair of Lowa Cevedale boots. So, I should be good with gear, but it seems like I say that every year!

This is awesome, thank you for taking the time to write it Derek.
I was actually looking into the vortex and a middle priced nikons.

I will be going to the store soon to look through these optics and see their set up.
Then I will pick one and start shooting :D

Thanks again!

That\'s the best plan. I can tell you I have a Nikon Monarch also along with the PST and the glass on the PST is way better. I never realized what I was missing before getting the PST. I know there is better glass out there than the PST as well, but it\'s tough to beat in that price range.

You read my mind by knowing I was looking at the Monarch.
price compared to product is my biggest concern here.

If this would be a custom gun I planned on using every year for hunting then we would be talking about high money optics.

This will just be some nice glass for a decent gun that will be used for when I need it.

The vortex seems like a good fit for the situation! :upthumb:
