Who uses a game cart?

that looks pretty manageable, Kevin.

that doesnt look as stable as some others, but does look easier to haul for smaller loads. did you haul an elk hind quarter on that thing? Seems like thats the ultimate test.

Nice work Kevin, and welcome to BTO! :welcome:

I would also like to hear more about what you were able to get on the cart. And did you have to pack it down a trail or could you go \'off road\' with it?

Congrats on a punched tag as well :upthumb:

I have a cheapie I purchased at Dick\'s. I have used it numerous times and have hauled quite a few deer out on it. I purchased it because one lady I hunt on is afraid of being sued and she doesn\'t allow ATV\'s on her property. Most of the areas I hunt on her land was about a 1.5 mile hike. Considering I am an easterner and I would have never thought to actually break an animal down and put it on my back this was the most logical method. I had to make some minor adjustments to it as I added longer handles to make it easier to use because of my height. I am 6\'4\" so the stock cart didn\'t work. Overall it works good but I haven\'t used it in quite some time as most of the animals I have shot in the past 3-4 years have had good trail access fairly close where I could load them onto my Ranger or a quad.

Here is is with a slickhead

This haul was actually the reason I added the extended handles (not pictured) as it was a pain in the rear to use without them. I don\'t think I have a pic of them.

Mark: I have the same cart that I got from Cabelas. I am much shorter than you, but experienced the same problem. I modified it and am going to modify it a lot more. I extended the handle. Now I want to change the wheels and the back end.

I will take a pic of mine tonight if I can remember....I extended the handles using some thick walled 1/2\" conduit. I can\'t remember how long they are but they are pretty long. Maybe 3\'? I Made a \"T\" out of the conduit and attached it to the end of the cart. It works well. Much better than dragging.

I just built a simple one this year and it was a real back saver. I bought a trashed $3 bmx bike from a thrift store and found an old beat up Razor scooter for the platform. With a little extra hardware and paint I ended up with a 14# cart that turned a painful 2+ trip day into an easy one trip day. Total cost was way less than $50. Totally worth it. I call it a BMX (Beast Meat eXtractor) :) Looks a lot like a redneck version of the Packwheel but I actually got my inspiration from this.

I like this one! Low center of gravity. Essentially panniers!

Got a pic of it unloaded? I\'m gonna build one. Maybe put a disc brake on it. Haha. Jk.

Here is a pic of my extended handle. It is an 18\" extension. Not near as long as I thought. I welded nuts on the bottom and then ran bolts through the frame to tighten the extension to the frame.

The picture with the game bags on the cart is \"all\" the meat from a not-huge cow how elk all boned out. I estimate something like 150# of meat. 2 quarters on one side and 2 on the other. The other meat was placed in a third bag on top. The majority of the weight was just above the axle so it wasn\'t too bad as far as balance goes. A lot of the travel out of the woods was on a trail but not all of it. With 2 people it was fairly easy to get it over logs etc. I\'m not a huge guy (5\'9\", 170) and my son who shot the elk is much smaller and we got it out ok. You can drag it backwards over smaller logs and obstacles and uphill. It was still work. Having the brake was more useful than I would have thought. It was actually easier to \"push\" the cart downhill than to walk without it.

I need one of these.

I really need a sled for those late season hunts in snow. At least when it\'s down hill back to the truck!
