Ok let me chime in here on this conversation. Having been in the archery industry for over 20 years I can tell you thr pice varies. I worked with the Marketing coordinator in the 90\'s real close for PSE. The bow costs back then was around 300 for their top of the line bow to make. They were selling for around 600, so you had a 50% profit.
The same goes for todays market. A 999.99 bow cost about 475 tp 550 fpr the company to make.
A Proshop buys a bow from brnad x for as low as 600 if they buy so many and turn around and sell them for 999.99.
I just did some consulting at a pro shop here in San Diego helping them set up their archery range. We went to the ATA show and I guided them in making choices on what bows they should carry. Depending on the manufacture of the bow (Because of the size and their budget they had for buy bulk) the average cost was around 675 for a bow. Some of the bigger companies would offer cheaper deals if the shop would commit to a certain buy in program. i.e., buy 100 bows and they would be 600 a piece, etc.
The real bread and butter where money is made is in the quiver, sights, arrows, etc. Let\'s call them the consumables. Proshops really make a lot of profit off of those. You can buy a rest for 40 bucks and sell it for 125, your price point is much better.
Anyway, just wanted to throw that out there for you and let you chew on it.
Brad, as far as the bows not holding their value. It\'s just like a car man. Everyone wants the newest thing. Jeeping up with the jone\'s.
